Flanagan has been in radio for almost 27 years, having started as a young announcer in Karratha, moving to Alice Springs and then Tamworth, where he became General Manager under the late Bill Caralis in 2006.
He then took over the Nowra stations under Grant Broadcasters.
Upon ARN’s acquisition of Grant Broadcasters, Flanagan was appointed General Manager of Wave FM in Wollongong as well as Area Lead for ARN’s NSW stations. He has been in that role for the past three years.
He will start on his new role from Monday 3rd November and will be based in Newcastle.
Good luck Mr Flanagan. Don’t forget the 5g chinese mind control vaccine and the evil communist albo government that is dividing our country, and the wind turbines and electric cars that burst into flames, and all the enforcement of transgendering all our kids .
Can someone in Tamworth tell them about voice clash on the 95.5 fm service…..
Hat did a bunch of voices for them before the conversion. Everything from idents to break bumpers and the odd promo…. i heard all three items using his voice back to back the other day!
You’d think they would be on thier game, just as much as they think they are… boy it sounds like amature hour!
I was listening to Dave Cochrane - he’d fallen for an urban myth about the 1st of October marking the start of drivers over 62 needing to display something similar to P plates.
He took a few calls from outraged people then someone must have mentioned it was an urban myth and he stopped talking about it in the next hour.
Most of the rubbish they go on with is easily checked by googling the topic with misinformation on the end, usually everything they ramble on with is well known lies and propaganda from some group like the American right wing born-agains .
Alan Jones got caught out a few times falling for that sort of thing, too. He used to blame his callers for feeding him misinformation but Media Watch pointed out that Alan had a team of producers who should be vetting this stuff before it gets to him
I went away to Byron Bay for a bit and was curious about the “AM version” of the Super Radio network. I found it interesting how “they ignored” the AM frequencies up there on some of the stations. You hear 104.1 and 103.5 there but not the name of the station radio “97” up in Byron Bay. The 103.5 FM was a little weak into Byron and the 2LM 900 am was ok but not very strong. 972 AM was also a little weak. The lack of “AM” frequency was more pronounced (of the call signs) with Cruze FM 93.5 FM down south. I was listening to it on 531 AM and the audio sounded fine but it sounded like I had the wrong frequency as not a mention of the AM Frequency . Kempsey /Port Macquarie is an interesting area, you get an ok reception from Port Macquarie but you got your own FM/AM frequencies there. Yet in Byron Bay the reception isn’t great in the town centre unless you climb up to the lighthouse where you can get Gold Coast Brisbane. Unfortunately I didn’t bring my DAB radio there. I am sure you can get both Brissy and GC there. 103.5 FM probably needs a little boost in the wattage.
I found that 639 AM had a pretty good reception south of Coffs rather than North. Thus they got the repeater into Woolgoolga on 100.5 FM.
I did listen to 2RE on 88.9 FM quite extensively as I got stuck in the traffic there. No Talkin’ sport. I did ring the station to see if I could provide an update, the 2RE studio number no one picked up. I tried to call up another number and it went to someone from Max FM. Whilst I did hear about the accident on 2RE but I believe the music was voice tracked as there were no updates to what was happening. For example, are there any diversions planned etc. I did suggest 2RE to say to the listeners to divert via “The lakes way” but I don’t think it went air (unless it was aired on 107.3 FM).
I missed the Billy Bob @dxnerd show on Braidwood FM, maybe I should have called him on Thursday . I am sure he would have provided an update on a different 88.9 FM. I get spoiled listening to Billy Bob who always provides regular updates on any traffic incidents in and around Braidwood and down the coast. It is exactly what I needed when we were walking around stopped cars on the A1 highway wondering what was happening. My expectations were set too high .
The music was pretty good though on the super radio network (when they played music) although still a bit safe.
That will be because the transmitter is at Raleigh about halfway between Coffs Harbour & Nambucca Heads, they were put there to cover Nambucca Heads & down South to where 531 Kempsey would take over, even though originally they weren’t both owned by the same company/network, (I don’t think Wesgo owned both at any time), Wesgo built 2CS, but I don’t think they ever owned 2MC?
Back in the day there wasn’t much North of Coffs Harbour, tourists went to Coffs but not much further North, yes it was a route though to Brisbane from Sydney, but back then it wasn’t much better than a goat track & most of the traffic traveling between still took the New England Highway via the inland route, so there wasn’t a lot of call for radio stations North of Coffs Harbour along the coastal road, outside the likes of Grafton & Lismore.
Byron Bay was a 60s Hippy town, unless you were one, you wouldn’t want to go there, unlike now. Sydney tourists did the Mid-North Coast from Port Macquarie to Coffs Harbour, but not much further North, with a stopover in Grafton &/or Lismore if you were traveling right through to Brisbane.
Still don’t want to go there, too crowded and too pretentious. The South Coast is much better in this regard.
The ABCRR statewide drive programme does OK for regional traffic reports, but you really need Waze to get yourself out of a jam (literally) these days. That’s where I get my indicative travel times from. Traffic is bad everywhere these days and delays can be even more acute in regional areas with only one major thoroughfare. Exhibit A is the Kings Highway, where a fatal accident occurs most school holidays and if that happens, you’re basically stuffed between Canberra and the coast.
I have tried to get the other presenters on Braidwood FM to do similar traffic reports but so far, no success on that front.
Yeah I have plans to go camping down there again in a week or so. Overall I prefer the south coast as well, but still enjoy a road trip It has been ages since I went past Coffs, never went to Byron Bay before. Yeah I do appreciate your reports. Can you call the authorities to get the rundown on a situation, if needed given you are on the radio? I do use Waze but the accident was pretty recent as we drove through we may have missed it by around 20 mins. Waze had not caught up yet.
We did have a direct line to the RFS during the fires in 2019-20, but haven’t needed to do so in a traffic accident thus far. Overall social media/Waze does a fairly good job where the Kings Highway is concerned.
Sounds like you were a bit unlucky with your incident. I’m lucky that I’ve never copped one of the legendary delays on the Pacific, mainly because I refuse to go north in the school holidays.
B-Rock are doing the Ultimate Driving Songs in the lead up to the Bathurst 1000.
Can anyone confirm if the station will be live & local for longer during this countdown? Or will they only do it 6am-midday, with BOG FM network feed covering the afternoon shift?
… I still cannot figure out why B-Rock is local for only half the weekday, and local again at Nights? … Wouldn’t it make more sense to pour that energy into a local log each weekday for the entire day?
I often joke that people on Lord Howe Island can probably hear 2HC much better than people in Coffs Harbour. The fact you can hear Cruze FM on 531 better in many parts of Coffs than 2HC says it all.
And I’m still surprised it took until 1985 for Coffs Harbour to get its own commercial AM station (compared to 1933 for 2GF and 1937 for what is now 2PM).
