Staying in radio? Or just moving?
I wonder what Luke Bona thinks of the recent changes to B-Rock? He was previously hosting the mid-dawns there via Triple M. I believe itās because he used to be PD at B-Rock and had a connection to the station and market.
I could imagine he wouldnāt be happy with B-Rockās recent networked direction.
On a different note - with the SRN FNQ stations returning to local programming, does this mean Pete Graham is back voice-tracking a shift on one of the stations there?
He has other things on his mind today, sadly.
I just saw that! What a shame.
He wonāt be free for long. Heād do brilliantly on SRN. Hopefully they can bring him across for evenings or even simply weekday afternoons!
Former Hot Tomato drive presenter (and former one-half of Triple Mās Club Veg), Mal Lees, will be presenting breakfast on Radio 97 Tweed Heads. Meanwhile, Steve Murphy will present a live-&-local afternoon program for the same station.
Both will commence from Monday 3rd March.

Brilliant move. Having local arvos also means more music for the station.
A great move by SRN - especially on a day when the competition are sacking staff.
The above Radioinfo article has since added an interesting quote by George Caralis, who said that:
āSteve Murphy on [Radio 97] afternoons is also the first of more live and local shows on the cards for the Network. Watch this space.ā
Very impressive move to hire Mal for Radio 97.
Graham Miles wouldāve been sounding Mal out for some time now. Been quietly hoping it would happen.
The lack of renewal of Malās contract by the Cameron family when they owned Hot Tomato was disappointing (unsurprising nonetheless), however Drive usually has remained their best performing shift.
Mal would be an excellent talkback talent, he could program the station, such is his skill. Always a pity Nine lack the vision.
B-Rock remaining local till midday weekdays with Deekās replacement announced:
Any news on when the Super Radio Network will be live streaming all their stations via their websites, and on the Radio App?
The ETA is 32nd of Smarch.
Credit where itās due. Well done to SRN for keeping 2BS local afternoons and introducing Radio97 local afternoons.
If they can push it, itād be good if they could at least let B-Rock run automated rock music outside of 6am-midday weekdays, keeping its legacy strong.
Itās great to still see markets like Tamworth & Mudgee still receiving a decent local radio service - especially on FM.
I think itās a little odd that the shifts on B-ROCK are 6-9am and 9am-12pm.
Youād think theyād do the shifts as 6am-10am, then maybe 10am-4pm (the last few hours could be voicetracked), that way be local for pretty much the whole workday.
Agreed! and I dare say Port Macquarie is next.
Thereās some speculation going on - on his very own Facebook radio page, many followers are speculating that Dave Sutherland will be on Breakfast soon at 531 Port Macquarie. Dave has stated that heās on leave at the moment, but will be announcing his new role within SRN soon!
Passing through Port Mac a couple of weeks agoā¦I think it was Nick James doing brekkyā¦ sounding pretty good. Probably keeping the seat warm in the meantime.
As they sayā¦watch this space!
I wish it were soon! I also passed through Tareeā¦ as always, 2RE was a great listen, loads of great music in the afternoon. Would be fantastic if they streamed online.
If thatās the case I wonder where heāll be doing the show from, he lives on the Central Coast & does his show from Newcastle currently, when he was doing breakfast on 2SM he did travel to Sydney to do it out of the 2SM studios, so if he is going to do Port Breakfast, heāll probably have to be moving there, thereās no spare studios at 2HD Newcastle or 2SM Sydney he can do it out of?
It makes sense to have some form of local brekkie show on Radio531 right now. Given that 2HDās Richard King is probably completely focusing on the Hunter region with his show, and Ron focusing only on Sydney - there isnāt really any feed they can take locally.
Which is a good problem to have.
So that now means all SRN stations pretty much have their own dedicated brekkie shows - even if it means voicetracking from another market (like 2HC is doing).
Iām sure itāll only get even more local.
2TM Tamworth turns 90 today (27th February 2025).
This following Radioinfo article includes detailed history of 2TM:

In a first for SRN, some of the affected area websites have provided information on their new websites ahead of Cyclone Alfred.
Well done to the SRN team for doing this along with other regional stations.
SRNs new websites are excellent.
Much better layout and graphics, and aside from the colours, consistent design across the board.
The only thing missing is a āListen Liveā button.
