Sunrise (2015-Sept 2020)

2 clips from Sunrise in that article.
1 from Today show.

Now where in any of these clips is she spreading hate speech?
Maybe that’s why she wasn’t ‘challenged’.
When she does go too far, she is always challenged. This is known. It’s not Pauline’s soap box.
In these cases she was calmly expressing her views that the government need to be very vigilant on who we allow into the country.
Now if that’s an extremist view… what has this PC world come to?
In a democracy people are free to vote at their election ballots and indeed with their remote.
Both have spoken. She has legitimate support.
Now just because I don’t agree with her, doesn’t mean I’m calling for Sunrise or any other program to silence her.
That would be ridiculous.

They only challenged her after this atrocity. Previously Sunrise were happy to let her spout opinions without much more than a generic “shocked face reaction” from Kochie or Sam. Anyone who knows the slightest about dog whistling knew her comments were reaching a dangerous tone and yet Sunrise were happy to indulge because it would cause outrage. They knew they’d get social media clicks from outraged left wingers and supportive far right wingers alike, so they kept going.

Sunrise absolutely have themselves to blame for the body politic of this country reaching a new low, whereby an elected senator, who was headhunted by One Nation, is now blaming Muslims for being massacred in their own place of worship. We have hundreds of supporters online saying they deserved it, they had it coming, etc.

Sunrise chased social media sugar hits and in doing so brought this shit into the mainstream.

Does anyone have the interview in full?

Not it’s not. At some stage we have to accept that allowing racist opinions on television and social media is going to push people to extremes on either side.

Even if only 1 in 100 people change their mind in favour of Pauline after every segment, that’s 4000 people per Sunrise appearance. We have to realise that this content isn’t informed, it isn’t helpful, it isn’t intelligent and it is actually extremely dangerous, as we saw on Friday.

There is a link on Sunrise’s Twitterfeed.

She made comments which (while weren’t made in bad faith or with malice) The NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal recently found to have “…vilified Muslim people when she advocated for Muslim immigration to be banned” because it had the capacity to “encourage hatred towards, or serious contempt for, Australian Muslims by ordinary members of the Australian population”.

Not endorsing/objecting to this comment because I tend to both agree and disagree with various aspects of the arguments both sides of the debate have made in this thread. However, think it provides an opportunity to link to this timely segment from Get Krack!n:

It’s not. Breakfast-time “debates,” if you can call them that, have no real salt to them. It’s reactionary BS to current events and there’s no real getting along anywhere to new conclusions on policy. And if you’re having these same politicians on weekly, well, that’s what we get.

The whole concept is embarrassing in practice minus meaningful fact checks, some formal rules and just better producing.

That photo has completely been taken out of context! Some have labelled this as physical abuse against women (which apparently is why he should be fired) even though there was no physical abuse what so ever.

The comments are so stupid, you cant delete channel 7 off your TV…

Sees 40 unread posts in Sunrise thread, assumes minor format or graphical changes

Reads posts

Inserts usual remark about seeing so many unread posts therefore assuming a relaunch, only to disappointed to see it was only arguing

Apologies for discussing something of substance rather than the usual superficial elements of the broadcast.

Was Sam and Nat’s makeup en flique today or does the makeup department need another dressing down?

Being in the headlines has had no effect on the ratings for Sunrise. Tuesday morning numbers for Sunrise and Today were both within 2,000 of Monday’s numbers with Sunrise maintaining its +60,000 lead over Today.

Sunrise was up slightly to a weekly high while Today dropped to trail by 90,000. News Breakfast was just 12,000 below Today ranking ahead of Today in Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide in simulcast numbers.
