Sunrise (2015-Sept 2020)

Are Nine attempting to copy Seven again by having their breakfast show on the beach as well?

Seriously? It’s the Gold Coast. Where else would you telecast from?

Of course Sunrise would telecast from there. Are you referring to Today? Are they broadcasting from the Gold Coast too? I thought they had a ban from being near the Commonwealth Games

They can’t be in game venues, but no one can stop them going to the beach.

They’re not the host broadcaster though so what point is there in them being on the Gold Coast?

It’s still a news event and worth covering. Given it is so close it makes sense to head up and leverage the event.

Today Show was broadcast from the Gold Coast yesterday (Wednesday) morning which was a epic fail for them on many levels.
Fantastic ratings result for Sunrise yesterday.

Why did Sunrise broadcast from Melbourne every year when Nine had the rights to the Logies? Same thing.

That actually could be seen as a different scenario since the gang were there for the Logies the night before anyway so they don’t have a chance to get back to their Sydney studios unless they take a night flight and get little to no sleep.

Maybe the Nine presenters went to the opening ceremony as well?

Maybe but there are plenty of other events Seven have covered when Nine has had the rights and vice versa.

Heaven forbid that actually happened :joy: as @Mitchell_Nock would say it’s a SEVEN EVENT no one from other networks is allowed to attend!
In fact if @Mitchell_Nock. had his way no one from other networks would be allowed to even enter the Gold Coast during the duration of the Commonwealth Games .

Reminder that from this morning (Thursday) Sunrise was shown at 5.30 am AEST in all markets (3.30 am Perth). This will make ratings comparisons (starting with numbers released Friday) difficult until the end of the Comm Games.

Sunrise finished a little later than it was scheduled to this morning at around 9:20 AEST. I suspect this was mainly to allow Perth viewers to still see one Perth news break at 7:00 there as a result of Sunrise airing completely live into WA. Yesterday and during the Rio 2016 Olympics when Sunrise was airing live into WA, there was just a single Sunrise Perth news update that would air in an ad break during the Olympic/Commonwealth Games coverage that would just be a minute or so long. The Perth news break that showed today was the usual length it is at 7:00 and 8:00. Perth cut away to Perth news at 7:00 when Nat again read the news to the rest of the country and Matt Tinney ended Sunrise for WA and threw over to Commonwealth Games coverage.

Yeah sure. It’s all about Perth.

doubt thats why it happened

To be fair he has a point about ratings.

Well suggest another reason why. It seems very convenient that it was extended just long enough to allow Perth news to fit in at its usual time of 7:00 WA time when Sunrise was meant to finish at 9:02 AEST like it did yesterday. They could easily have still finished it at the right time and had extra replays at the start of Commonwealth Games coverage, which is what was likely scheduled. On normal days, Sunrise don’t normally have a proper news break at 9:00 unless there is an extended version scheduled. It just seemed very unusual.

Maybe they wanted to lessen the amount of time between coverage starting and live sport actually starting in the coverage since we all know how much continuous replays annoy people, thus the decision was made to extend Sunrise a little further…

Mark Beretta is co-hosting with Monique live from the Gold Coast this weekend.
