Not sure, but it has happened previously. Sunrise ends up bouncing back. But there is a general decrease in FTA viewership, we know that. Maybe it affects their demographic more than Today.
Could be fatigue after 20 years with lots of the same faces; might be the reverse of viewer loyalty?
No one has managed to recapture the excitement in breakfast television that Mel and Kochie did in the early days of Sunrise. It was a bit like breakfast radio, on tv. Since then the show had morphed into the same product as Today. And we know they both copycat frequently.
Well they kinda morphed into each other. And the reason they copycat so much is because Sean Power always has one eye on Today.
I feel like the fun and spontaneity has been sucked out of Sunrise, and you’re left with this cookie-cutter template of a show, far from its glory days, hellbent on whipping up its own headlines. The competitions are bland, the celebrity interviews are largely the same junkets Today is on, and usually a day after The Project and the cooking segments are always rushed.
Another poor result Monday with the Brisbane audience for Sunrise higher than that in Sydney and Melbourne. Has Seven ditched the generic promos that they produced for the show? haven’t noticed one for a while. Seems like they want to highlight what is on the next morning, but it rarely seems to be something compelling and usually consists of some OS celebrity that you can see everywhere. Would viewers tune in for the chance that the promoted item happened to be showing just when they tuned in? If the trend continue, more people will be watching The Moring Show than Sunrise.
Extremely Sunrise. Major rail delays in Melbourne and the producers manage to rip a photo from the train operator’s social media accounts. If it was Sydney or even Brisbane, half the show would relocate to a station for rolling coverage.
12/7/24: Musher filling in for Shirvo again. Sam is back. Noticed this morning that Feel Good Friday was introduced as a segment at the end of Eddy’s 6.30 news, with an opener and sponsor, similar to weather.
