It looks like Sunrise has changed their format after three weeks. Remember it is only 5.30 in QLD so it might only be the first 30 minutes.
5.30-6.00
5.32-5.36- News with Nat
5.36-5.38- Sport
5.38-5.41- Weather
5.45-5.47 - News Story with Sam and Kochie (similar to what used to at 6.15)
5.52-5.56- Entertainment Report
5.56-5.59 - The Papers and Top Stories
6.00
News at Nat, so format must have reverted back to news, sport and weather on the top and bottom of the hour.
Is the backdrop behind Sam and Kochie new this morning, or was it used yesterday? Itâs blue on Samâs side and orange behind Kochie. Features some clouds, stylised sun etc and âsunriseâ scrolling in small text.
It is new as of this morning, and IMO looks worse than the âliveâ shot of Martin Place. The design itself isnât bad but now it just looks like TODAYâs old set with the blue and orange clouds.
Doesnât look too bad!
I noticed they alternated between that and the live shot this morning.
I think itâs a good idea especially for the hour before daylight. They are basically sitting in front of a black screen anyway.
Ha trueâŚ
In saying that though taking on viewers feedback (even though this change isnât due to that) isnât a bad thing. I remember whenever Boland would relaunch the show he would take the viewers feedback on board and make changes. After all if you please viewers with what they want to see they will be comfortable with it and stick around.
We have already seen the return of the âTheme songâ and the revert back to the old format in some places.
One thing they should address IMO is the graphics.
The main super should be revised. Itâs just too clunky and Te colours look off, but the ticker, time and wether are fine.
Also tone down the full screen transitions (LIVE, BREAKING NEWS, DEVELOPING etc.). There actually arenât that many more compared to the âoldâ they just werenât as in your face because the colour palate of those was pastels. These are big bold bright heavy colours with intense flying letters.
Sunrise back to a solid-ish win yesterday. I say âishâ - it is not massive, just about 15k, but not as close as some of the previous days have been.
To be honest, yes a revamp rocks the boat a bit but in the long term it would be a huge disservice to reverse every decision. Change takes time AND they werenât helped by the whole Sex and the City thang which in my opinion was a case of overblown outrage.
I would call that a reasonable win over Today, back to the position, they finished the ratings year last year.
Itâs early days, but it feels like theyâre getting a bit of a groove back. That said, ATM I only see parts of the first two hours.
I agree. The removal of the host single presenter stories before the news has helped a lot also with minor tweaks from what I have seen. Funny how on the day (Monday 22.Feb.2015) that the format is reverted back, Sunrise is stronger and back on the top. Saying anything Michael?
For anyone interested I have added the ratings for both the Early (6.00-7.00am) and the 5.30am segments of both breakfast programs to the ratings reportâŚ
Changes should be done over time. Making all those changes is a shock to the system for viewers and when you make so many of them at once itâs difficult to determine what is working and what is not.

Richard Wilkins was hosting Today, which may have had an impact
Late morning? Because from 5.30-7.20, Karl and Lisa were both there all week.
