Sunrise (2015-Sept 2020)

I think it has stayed that way on the half hour i.e. Straight to Nat. It’s only on the hour that Kochie and Sam do the top stories. Is that correct?

Nat would be absolutely great on Studio 10

Yep.

Can we speak in something other than cliches? What does me posting a comment on MediaSpy about an article in Fairfax publications, about morning television, have to do with "‘PC-culture gone mad!’?

For future reference, a “spiel” would actually be your rant employing cliches about the left and right of politics, applied to the comment of on individual.

which the right seems to be trotting out a lot nowadays?
Oh right, yes, just like that nasty right wing programme Media Watch on the ABC, which basically summarised the outrage as nothing more than a “big deal” tonight. Which is exactly what I posted.
She has more of a right to speak out against what she sees as a culture problem in the media than any random on the internet has a right to brand anything as ‘faux-outrage’.
This is literally nonsensical.

How can she speak out about an outrage that she herself has expressed?

You actually don’t make any sense. We are commenting on her article expressing outrage, which was broadly published across Australia today on all Fairfax platforms.

Who, apart from readers like me, on websites like MediaSpy, would be commenting?

And, in fact, if we do not have a right to speak about this media issue (not only from the point of view that the article discusses members of the Australian media employed in breakfast TV, but also as to the publication of this article in the media), then what is the point of MediaSpy?
if you think Sunrise (or Today) is empowering for women
Sorry, I don’t give any thought as to whether a television program powers anything.

Petrol powers my car. Electricity powers my household lights.

Sunrise (or Today) deliver me news.

Learn the difference and stop being a walking cliche.
I suggest you think long and hard about what sort of roles women get, how they’re represented and exactly which women become successful in the television industry.
But, now that you have asked me to direct my attention to the issue, I will.

The three most famous female faces in Australian breakfast TV history are amongst the most senior news figures in the country; Liz Hayes, Tracy Grimshaw, and Mel Doyle.

In contrast, for example, the sort of role that a male gets, and how they’re represented, is for example, like Karl Stefanovic - the role of a playful buffoon - while Lisa Wilkinson plays the more serious straight role.

So you’re wrong again.
As someone who knows quite a few women pursuing a job in the media, let me tell you that TV in particular looks for a a very narrow set of ‘traits’ when hiring women for on-air roles. These issues are probably lesser in other mediums, but TV absolutely has a ‘bimbo problem’.
While you may know quite a few women pursuing a job in the media, you are obviously quite sheltered with these comments. Whether a person is attractive or not is a factor in most hiring decisions in this country - for example, and now not talking about mediums at all, the legal or business industry. And this applies equally to males.

Ah no thanks. Studio10 already has all the talent it needs.

They have twicked the format for the 7am hour whereby they went straight to Nat for news but only for a few minutes. About 5 minutes later they went back to Nat for further news. They should just return to the old format the new one obviously isn’t working.

They should have kept the old news format, it worked perfectly. Now it just look so disjointed and all over the place.

I think the old set looked so much better, the new one look so cramped. I thought I liked the graphics package, but ahh it’s just practically in your face. With the old one it was minimal and less destracting.
In the actual studio? From the AFL set? Is there any particular reason or just to build their Melbourne audience?

The promo says the show will be broadcast from the heart of Melbourne, which implies some place like Bourke Street Mall or City Square, not Docklands.

And the feud continues

Armytage failed to land a gig at ABC, Virginia Haussegger recalls

The sledging match between Virginia Haussegger and Samantha Armytage has descended into tit-for-tat jibes, with the ABC presenter revealing Armytage’s failed attempt to land a job with the national broadcaster.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday night, Haussegger questioned Armytage’s memory after the Sunrise host claimed she had to ‘Google’ the senior journalist.

“I did have to Google [Haussegger] to find out who she was,” Armytage told Mamamia on Tuesday morning.

But Haussegger revealed the pair had met years earlier when she interviewed Armytage for a job in the ABC Canberra newsroom.

Now Ten, now! Launch a new breakfast show while these two are loosing the plot! Get that lazy Matt White on board with lots of planning and research before launching. Rob McKnight to EP!

Ten is done with breakfast TV. Breakfast and Wake Up were both spectacular failures, for a variety of reasons.

If Ten sorts out its primetime and is able to start beating Seven or Nine on a consistent basis, then they can start thinking about another attempt at 6-9am. For now though, they need to sort their shit out. They can’t even properly promote the one hour of news they have airing daily; I shudder at the thought of how they would handle promoting a breakfast show.

Fix 5pm, get the ratings up for the early evenings, perhaps launch a late-night talk show or panel show (perhaps something along the lines of a late edition of The Project), and then once those properties are working, think about another multichannel.

A big problem Ten has is that most viewers are watching Nine, Seven or the ABC the night before, so that when they turn the TV back on in the morning, their TVs are automatically on Today, Sunrise or News Breakfast. If Ten can get audiences to stick around throughout the evening, then they have a decent shot of getting a respectable sampling of their breakfast offerings via audience flow-through.

I think the only way Ten might get into the breakfast slot is by lengthening Studio 10. They could do what Today has done with Today Extra in reverse. That is, have the more serious news and hot topics from 7am to 8.30am and then have the regular Studio 10 with infomercials.

I’m not saying they should or they would but if they ever did consider it, this would be the way to go.

Hmm Joe Hildebrand pretty much said that word for word on Studio10.

I’m not Joe Hildebrand. lol

Was trying to find the video of Eddy’s the Horses karaoke. Not having much luck. Anybody capture it when it happened or has a link?

Maybe it’s just me, but looks like sunrise is being shot in HD from Mel today.
The quality and lighting is certainly better today from Seven Melbourne AFL Show set.

What does everyone think about an audience at breakfast? I know that the studio audience was discussed the last time Sunrise were in Melbourne but since then we have seen how greatly it is done on Studio 10. This morning’s audience was poorly managed-random clapping, irregular applause for some lengths on time too, it was annoying. I think it could work, could have especially worked for Wake Up, if it is well managed however I couldn’t see a regular turn out.
