First look ratings numbers above:

The first day of the “official” ratings period and Nine was off to a commanding start well ahead of the competition. Nine managed a rare win in all 5-city markets as well as regionally. Nine’s best market was Sydney were it was 10 points clear of Seven, while Seven did best in Adelaide. 10 had a better than usual Sunday share performing best in Brisbane.

Married At First Sight topped one million again and was the night’s number one show. As 60 Minutes returned to make the top 5.

Dancing With The Stars kicked off just under 600,000 in preliminary number which compared to 615,000 in 2019. It helped give 10 one of its best in survey ratings shares recorded in recent years, which, considering the competition from MAFS was a good sign.

However, My Kitchen Rules rated lower than the previous Sunday when it was up against The Australian Open Final. Seven’s premiere movie did poorly.

Day one of ratings in 2019 shares were
ABC 17.2%
Seven 26.8%
Nine 32.9% -
Ten 16.4%
SBS 6.7%

For a Sunday night (when they usually rate appallingly) and for a show that went for over two hours that’s still fairly decent, especially that it beat MKR which was shorter. Plus the Sunday night share isn’t too bad at 12.7%.

How did DWTS fare in the demos?

DWTS ranked 5th in 25-54, 6th in 16-39.

Very impressive considering it didn’t even make the top 5 in demos until the finale last year.

Looks like the writing is well and truly on the wall for MKR. Those numbers are simply unsustainable in the long run. Even the ‘fun’ promos doesn’t seem to have persuaded viewers to get back.

MAFS, well it’s dominating but it’s still one of the worst shows out there and proves that Australian viewers seem to resonate with garbage in droves.

60 Minutes, despite less competition from Sunday Night’s demise, returns with fair but somewhat underwhelming results. You would think that the show would benefit from the lack of direct competition and MAFS lead-in but that number isn’t fantastic though demo numbets might be better.

The bushfire cricket match did very well for Seven.

Still not enough to beat the ABC and therein lies the problem. They really need to start it at 7pm. Project should be 6-7. Given the 6:30 portion increases on the low rating Bondi Rescue there is merit in giving this thought. They need to align with how the other networks program on a Sunday.

At least MKR continues to tank.

I’m shocked Dancing beat MKR in Perth.

Melbourne absolutely hating MKR - the ratings there are atrocious.

MKR number made even more appalling by the fact that all of Sydney was inside due to the weather. Will have a big drop tonight.

10 would be reasonably happy with DWTS you’d think.
It skewed old in its last few seasons on Seven, so for it to be somewhat competitive in the demos on 10 is a decent outcome. It’s a really well produced show.

Ten still in 4th place. DWTS numbers are reasonable, but at the cost of producing it, they really need better than reasonable. At least its demos are OK, which will sustain it in the short term.

And they still can’t stomach the Project.

Dancing does ok on debut. Not anything fantastic but if 10 can continue with a similar percentage on Sundays they will be happy.

I think Ten need to accept and be OK with the fact that their shows aren’t going to rate much higher than 550-600k against MAFS. It’s still an improvement overall on last year and the timeslots across the week are at least beating MKR too.

Plenty of power outages in Sydney last night as well, numbers would’ve been higher I reckon.

DWTS adjusted time number 585,000

From 10

Network up 18% compared with the same night last year. Up 7% in under 50s, 27% in 16 to 39s, 8% in 25 to 54s and 11% in 18 to 49s.

The problem is two-fold. Firstly, that’s only one promo - the majority of promos running is still all about the ‘rivals’ BS. Secondly, the damage has already been done - viewers were turned off by the pre-launch promotions.

Minute by minutes show MKR dropped significantly through the first 30 mins.
MKR needs to be rested and brought back 12-18 months later as the show you know and love is back.
DWTS . Incredibly expensive show and not helped by the 7:30 start! How can TEN justify a lead in with the Project doing 380k when MAFS is doing a million at 7pm is a good sound strategy ? It’s not ! Viewers are like sheep and you need one to follow the other otherwise they forget !
Project is not must watch and viewers won’t hang around for half hour for a show that’s ok not brilliant and must watch !
Every show on TEN on a Sunday underperforms compared to the rest of the week and there is a reason for this ! It’s plainly obvious to everyone bar TEN!!

If Dancing only went to 915/920 and Sydney power outages I think mid 600s.

DWTS didn’t do too badly in its 7:30pm timeslot, though the show was ranked 5th in 18-49 and 25-54 demos.
Gilchrist v Ponting XI charity match did very well during the daytime.
