Nine wins Sunday with its second consecutive +40% share, this week off the back of The Block Grand Final. The result will likely top the share Nine received for the NRL Grand Final when consolidated results come in.

Easily the top show of the night, the “Winners’ Announcement” averaged 1.835 million with the rest of the marathon final on 1.555 million.

The result compares to 2020’s 1.79m and 1.43m , 1.92m and 1.54m in 2019 and 2.02m and 1.69m in 2018.

Nine won the key demos. Seven was second in 25-54 with 10 second in 16-39.

Seven help up well with +20% while ABC land SBS each lost 1 point and 10 almost 2 points from the previous week.

Nine won every timeslot last night starting with Nine News with 60 Minutes also doing well in preliminary numbers with its best result since Easter.

Elsewhere 7Spotlight’s ABBA special just outranked Restoration Australia while Celebrity MasterChef was down 35k to a season low.

ABC picked a bad night for the second season launch of Total Control but it averaged 330,000 and made the top 10.

Weekend Today ranked higher than Weekend Sunrise though it was technically a tie at breakfast.

Foxtel apparently had Supercars on Sunday – talk about extreme split coding with 18 separate entries.

Wow. The Block obliterated anything and everything. Despite it’s lacklustre start, the series definitely performed well for the network by the end.

Nine News Melbourne slaughtered Seven last night as well.

Huge audience for The Block finale as expected.

Ratings for the season 2 premiere of Total Control was less than half of the audience for the series debut in 2019. Perhaps the ABC should have waited until next week to start the new season.

Supercars took 18 of the top 20 spots in pay TV ratings, marking the end of a very successful week two of Sydney SuperNight event.

Big win for Channel Nine last night thanks to The Block Finale. Nine should be very happy with the results.

Surprised no one has made the comment about Foxtel yet

24 hours in a day, all 20 slots in Pay TV belonged to FS506 - was every 30 minutes coded?

Wow. The Block did better than i thought it would the marsthon episode worked.

Is The Project in serious trouble based on these numbers? Reportedly very highly paid hosts and 1 in particular seems to enjoy airing her salary battles. Surely 10 must be running the microscope over this lot?

Yikes to me… didn’t see that. Sorry!

As I’ve said in the past, Nine would be stupid not to make her Hitch’s successor.

Surely Tony Jones would be first in line? Sunday news always rates high, not sure the choice of host has a huge impact there.

Surely a big factor in the Melbourne audience for Nine News is the fantastic lead in. Nine already had 100,000 more people watching the lead in.

No reason why 7 couldn’t launch its own travel program at 530pm in Melbourne. They are largely backed by sponsors anyway they don’t cost a bomb to make.

I guess the issue is that Postcards is broadcast for almost the entire year (except for the middle Sunday of Australian Open tennis) while Seven’s Melbourne-based travel show can only air during the AFL off-season.

The return of Melbourne Weekender would help a bit. The series seems to do better for Seven in Sydney and Brisbane:

I’ve also mentioned months ago that having Mike Amor on a Sunday instead of Peter Mitchell doesn’t help. Peter still seems to attract more of the audience, if I’m not mistaken.

Two reasons Nine News Melbourne smashed Seven News Melbourne last night.

  1. Postcards lead-in
  2. The Block lead-out

Sorry but absolutely nothing to do with Alicia. Could’ve been Dougal Beaty presenting and they would’ve got the same numbers.

IMO, Tony Jones is the natural successor to Hitch. He’s a good anchor and is importantly familiar to the audience. Would many of the audience who ONLY watch 6pm news from Monday to Friday actually know who Alicia is?
