The Voice helped Nine to an easy win but it wasn’t as convincing as it might have been considering the great numbers the show had been getting for the season.

Last year’s numbers were 1,058,000 and 987,000; 2017 were 1,293,000 and 1,152,000.

Elsewhere, House Rules was down on recent Sunday results. MasterChef scored one of its best Sunday numbers (up 100k from last week) and gave 10’s main channel its best Sunday share of the year.

Even though The Voice grand final ratings are slightly down on last year, Nine will be happy with the overall ratings for this season, as it bucked the ratings declining trend of Australian Idol and The X Factor.
Average figures for the debut of The Planets, dragging down ABC’s share.

Great result for MasterChef then considering what it was up against

Masterchef was down about 100k (15%) from last year. The season is tracking at 20% below last year. It is probably the lowest ever season for Masterchef in overnight numbers, even lower than Season 5.

School holidays in most states biting hard (including The Voice). Underwhelming across the board.

What it does say is that apart from HHS with kids (assuming they are the ones on holidays and driving ratings down), there’s not a lot of people watching TV.

At the start of the year, there was (rightly) a lot of conjecture and discussion about MKR’s declining ratings in light of how it performed against MAFS. However, I reckon more focus needs to be placed on Masterchef’s disappointing performance this year. While it’s declining numbers might just be a) Demonstrative of 10’s declining fortunes this year and/or b) Expected because (like MKR) it’s now an ‘aging’ show/format, reckon it also suggests that the show needs to be shaken up

Or is it they’re not watching Live TV?

World Movies is doing well on 1.2 fairly soon out of the gates. SBS would be happy!

Yes, for some reason we have blithely ignored the decline in Masterchef’s ratings. I believe it needs a shakeup - same judges, same format, same guests year after year - makes for predictable TV.

Yep, precisely. In a lot of strife

I agree the MasterChef format needs a shakeup but I disagree about same guests year after year. For the immunity challenge and interstate trips the show have invited many younger chefs and lesser known names in the past two seasons and this season.

But it’s share% is way up on that season compared to the other 2 networks.

Yeah top SBS multi last night. So, so far looking promising for them. Won’t be long before its ahead of flix and peach

Yes, that’s true. However, doesn’t mean that it doesn’t need a few changes.

After some of their recent ratings results (such as 22k behind Seven on Saturday), Nine News Sydney will be breathing a major sigh of relief that they were 67k ahead of Seven last night!

Still not convinced that their current 3rd in-line newsreader is the best they can come up with in the absence of Pete & Deb though.

I agree. This year’s ratings for The Voice were beyond what many (including myself) were expecting, so I think Nine are going to give the format another go in 2020.

With both House Rules & MasterChef continuing to underperform, the signs look promising for tonight’s Season 3 premiere for Australian Ninja Warrior. However, only time will tell whether or not ANW enjoys a Voice-like resurgence this year after a relatively flat 2018.

It’s a result made all the more impressive by the fact that SBS World Movies is only available in MPEG4 HD via terrestrial TV.

Don’t forget that it is also available via Foxtel cable.

That’d be big. Even Viceland did massive 4% earlier this year or last year when it screened the Godfather movies.

I think SBS especially its multi-channels are extremely underrated and underappreciated.

Summary of The Voice’s season.

Average overnight audience (incl final) 955,000.

Best weeks: Week 3 with average audience of 1,029,000 overnight, 1081,500 consolidated and Week 5: 1,037,000 and 1,075,000.

The final week rated the lowest with 814,500.

Episode ratings ranged from 745,000 to 1,105,000 after the launch had 1,012,000.

The break in Sunday episodes caused by consecutively the SOO and The Logies seemed to negatively impacted the numbers and slowed momentum.

One aspect of The Voice for Nine is that it does (reasonably) well in Perth.
