Sunday 4 October 2020

Fair enough.

The other point is, wasn’t she wanting to move away from news and into sports, that was happening even during her final tenure at Seven. That’s what we’ve seen with her on Ninja, tennis and cricket. Weekend Today being the exception but that’s not hard core 100% news.

IIRC we haven’t seen Bec anchor Nine News yet, she hinted at it when they first poached her for The Footy Show, but to no avail yet. We’ll see…

At the end of the day, you’d want to be on the program that gets the most eyeballs.

Taking yesterday (Sun 04 Oct) for example:

Weekend Today didn’t make the Top 20 so had roughly somewhere under 200k viewers
Nine News Melbourne had 380k viewers

I’d go for Nine News Melbourne.

A higher than normal rank for the Sunday Footy Show, possibly because people wanted to see Kane Cornes cop it for saying Collingwood were just “making up the numbers”.

Okay, but that’s an assumption at best, as to how every TV personality thinks, majority of which (again an assumption from me) I’m sure wouldn’t think 100% ‘ratings’ front and centre and would they even understand or look at ratings, apart from a memo from a boss with a sentence “we were watched by 1 million last night” … “oh, that’s great”.

This is where Bec needs to go. She needs to replace Mitch. They need her more than anyone else in this country. If they want to any hope of competing with 9 at 6 then they have no choice.

She is on par with Alicia in terms of authority holding a 6pm bulletin and would be the only one with any hope of going up against her.

Tony is terrible on news and should never be used.
I’ve said it heaps before, Alicia needs the weeknight gig.

She would be a great option for the weekend edition on Nine. But Brett Mcleod is good too. Either way, Nine have heaps of good options in their news department.

Yes and Seven Melbourne has nobody which is why they need to get her back. That would be a huge win if they had Alicia on weeknights and Bec weekends. Seven would have no hope. Amor and Felgate? Disaster.

Considering how important the bulletin is to 7 I don’t think stumping up money will be an issue.

It would be even better for Seven if they could get Jennifer Keyte back, although it’s unlikely she’ll ever succeed Peter Mitchell considering she’s older than him.

Unfortunately for Seven they would go down the drain if the team was their current weekend team (Amor, Felgate and Sarris), so they need to look outside the box and hire outsiders IMO.

Wouldn’t that just cause more trouble for Seven?

The problem is that Alicia is unfamiliar to a viewer who only watches Monday to Friday 6pm bulletins and never watches weekends or 4pm bulletins, and also too since Tony is Hitch’s main fill-in and not Alicia.

I just don’t think that at the moment Alicia is main 6pm newsreader level. Tony is higher profile too.

If they want Alicia to succeed Hitch then she needs to start being his fill-in on weekdays.

What? More people watch Alicia on Sunday’s than Hitch during the week. I’m sure Melbourne know who she is.

Tony Jones probably has it written into his contract to fill in X number of days for Hitchener per year. It doesn’t mean he’ll take the role when the time comes (it doesn’t mean he won’t either).

She’s with Nine

Doesn’t mean she couldn’t move in the future.

Anyway we’re getting off topic here.

Woah, tell us how you really feel :open_mouth:

Considering it was fast-tracked, they should have been happy, rather than waiting an extra five days or longer.
