A big win to Seven to start the week +10 points clear of Nine thanks to a 3 point increase for the main channel and a boosted share for 7Mate as well. Nine slipped by one, 10 was down 2 points with ABC and SBS also down by one each.

Seven won all markets and the key demos easily headlined by Seven News’s audience of over 1.3 million - with half a million watching in Melbourne alone.

The Voice was again a winner at 7pm despite a small drop in viewer numbers while The Block recorded a season high, up 50k week-on-week. (Expect more cheating scandals in seasons to come). Meanwhile Survivor was down slightly (15k) to rank third in the reality format battle. The Voice won 25-54 but was third in 18-49 and 16-39.

Later Homicide with Ron Iddles again bettered 60 Minutes though both shows lost audience – 70,000 and 40,000 respectively. ABC’s The New reader was also down to a season low, 60k down on last week.

Big numbers for Seven News with AFL Lead-in despite a lopsided elimination final. Had essendon bombers been competitive, then the Sunday AFL ratings would have been much higher.
Nine News win NRL markets while seven News won AfL markets. In Perth, nine News was ranked 4th trailing behind Seven, Abc news and 10 News First
The voice continues to draw over 1 million viewers as Audience numbers for The Block rise to a season high.

Big audience in Melbourne for the AFL elimination final, which also helped Seven News.

7mate’s coverage of Paralympics did well but the channel share was at the lowest since the Games began.

The Block is slowly picking up viewers.

Block on the rise. Relief I imagine to Nine today.

The Block always has a steady increase as the season progresses. Not sure why everyone writes it off each year after only the first couple of weeks.

This year is the show’s lowest rating ever including its lowest rated episode ever. The equivalent episode to last night in 2020 rated 960,000 / 978,00 (reveal). In 2019 this episode had 1.1 million. So there is cause for concern for Nine.

Not sure how they get away with this claim, when it had less than half the viewers the AFL did?

In the markets it aired… probably!! You can make anything sound good in PR land (and it is their job to do so!!)

Since when?

The Block runs until 8:30pm while The Voice runs until 9:10pm. The Block beats The Voice in its 90 minutes on air. The Voice must pick up viewers after that when the other realities have finished.

If the ‘cheating’ ‘scandal’ helps lift The Block’s (so far) stagnant ratings long-term, it’ll prove yet again how gullible people are not to realise that Nine are re-executing the same playbook they used for The Voice last year (ie; whip-up/manufacture some type of ‘controversy’, promote the heck out of it and benefit from increased ratings).

One of my biggest bugbears with how the media is covered in Australia is networks/outlets/platforms don’t get called out anywhere near as much as they should. The way Nine has become a disingenuous ‘one-trick’ pony when it comes to how they promote shows (eg; everything that airs on that network is seemingly the biggest/most shocking/etc thing since sliced bread) should be the source of heavy criticism. However, not a peep is said about it…

Despite increased ratings compared to the previous Sunday, I think Nine would’ve expected more viewers to turn over to The Block last night. The Voice on Seven still smashed “The Cheating Scandal” by not insignificant numbers in Nine’s bread and butter markets: 90k gap in Sydney, 100k in Melbourne! :open_mouth:

At least one positive sign for Nine: A healthy increase in the Sydney 6pm ratings, beating Seven by 45k last night compared to the previous Sunday where Seven outrated Nine by 1k.

In Sydney, the Footy Show starts at 11am (10am in AFL cities).
In Sydney, the Coronavirus Update airs at 11am on both Seven and Nine for at least 20+ minutes each, and the numbers are reflected in these two shows. I assume “the true winner” is on the ABC News.

On another note, The Newsreader on the ABC is sadly going downwards, which is a shame. Its a good Aussie drama.

It’s got very big catch up numbers though so doing very well still nudging 800k online plus Metro consolidated.
