Nine dominated Sunday night with a +35% network share, 14 clear of Second placed Seven. Seven dropped 2, 10 slipped slightly and ABC was up 3.
Nine even managed to win Perth – 15 clear of Seven as well as all other markets.
Nine achieved +40% shares in key demo groups where 10 ranked second.

Some pretty low numbers all round for FT with nothing over 900,000 with MAFS the top show. That result compares to 1.09 million for the first Sunday show of 2020. Other reality shows were down week-on-week with The Amazing Race slipping 60k and the Holey Moley celebrity edition recording the lowest result for the franchise so far.

ABC viewing numbers were up across the board from the previous Sunday.

Weekend Sunrise makes the top 20 but 200,000 is its lowest rating for the year.

Mount Panarama!?

The Amazing Race has definitely shed about 100k viewers week on week. It’s not soley because of MAFS either, it dropped each day last week. That’s what happens when you drag a season out.

Which was up against MAFS after the Sunday episode. Sounds to me like a MAFS switch over.

From NIne:

MAFS, 9NEWS AND 60 MINUTES LEAD NINE TO DOMINANT SUNDAY WIN

The Nine Network was the winning network across the 5 City with People 25-54 , People 16-39 , GS + Child and Total People (35.3%) .

Nine was the primary channel of choice across the 5 City with People 25-54 , People 16-39 , GS + Child and Total People (26.6%) .

Married at First Sight was Australia’s dominant No.1 program with People 25-54, People 16-39 and GS + Child.

Married at First Sight was the No.1 program of the night across the 5 City, East Coast and in Sydney and Melbourne and was a dominant timeslot winner in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

60 Minutes was a timeslot winner across the 5 City and in all metro capitals.

9News Sunday was the No.1 program of the night in Adelaide and the No.2 program of the night across the East Coast, and in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

9News Sunday secured a national peak audience of 1.336 million (Metro: 982,000 / Regional: 354,000) and a national average audience of 1.126 million (Metro: 847,000 / Regional: 280,000).

Weekend Today was the No.1 breakfast show in Sydney and Brisbane.

At breakfast Weekend Sunrise made the top 20 but at just 200,000 it was one the lowest ratings the show has recorded. News Breakfast’s combine two channel audience was 15,000 higher while Today slipped to third 25,000 below Sunrise. The biggest difference for Sunrise was a significant loss of its Sydney audience on Sunday.

What a disastrous night for Seven, nothing outside news to be happy about at all there. Holy moly! Nine just sailed to victory, absolute domination. Nine News Late even did better than HM :joy: And that “Venom” FTA premiere number for a Sunday night, wow.

What a night for Nine Perth, champagne corks popping out west haha.

But ratings do look like one of the lowest ever for a normal Sunday, even Married couldn’t do 1m. Wonder if AFL and NRL soon will change that?

News Breakfast On ABC performed well, leading in Sydney, brisbane and Adelaide. ABC News Breakfast was tied with Sunrise in Melbourne. However, Sunrise won in Perth easily.
On the other hand, channel 9 won an official rating night in Perth for the first time this year. In The past three weeks, Channel 9 Perth ratings were low in the west, beaten heavily by Seven.

Weekend news ratings aren’t split in 2. Why is this!

What a sad sight for Australian FTA when the #1 show on a Sunday night - and most likely, the week - can’t even get 900k metro viewers.

Mind you when that low rating top show is MAFS (hopefully it continues to sink), I can’t really be too upset.

Yes, that’s how Seven spells it for the ratings. Poor things can’t even get the name of their program right!

Which leads to that question again: What could Seven do to regain domination?

They’ve been dwelling in 2nd place since MKR and House Rules failed two years ago and they just couldn’t gain any momentum with almost all their shows (aside from Big Brother, Farmer wants a Wife and SAS Australia). It just seems like they’re a lost cause. They try something that has been tried, it fails (Plate of Origin), they try something new (Holey Moley), it flops.

In hindsight there are production problems which has affected the overall product that we’re seeing on-air but surely they can find a show which can topple (Or at least be competitive against) Married/Lego/Ninja/Block. I honestly don’t know what else they can try.

While Nine will probably disagree, I’m personally of the belief those titles have (for the most part) benefited greatly from viewers regarding them as “the least worst option” compared to what Seven & Ten have put up against them.

Exactly what can topple the above mentioned titles, I’m not 100% sure. But I’m also not paid extraordinary amounts of money to come up with programming ideas, unlike those at Seven who’ve recently greenlit lame shows like Plate Of Origin and Holey Moley.

Its funny, coz of all of the slate of new shows that seven has gone with - I thought that Holey Moley would have the best chance…wife swap has been a waste, now holey - I dont hold out much hope for ultimate tag.

And it had until Seven programmers decided they couldn’t be bothered programmimg anything other than one show for the night and stretched the show to 90 minutes.

Very close figures at 6pm in Sydney.

Seems that Mark Ferguson is making inroads on Nine slowly, but surely.

I think we’ll see Nine News Sydney firing on all cylinders again in the next few weeks.

Especially with the NRL returning, that will no doubt give them a huge lead in on Sundays.
