Another huge share thanks to the NRL grand final. Nine’s best share since the Australian Open gave it 50% in January.
Nine did best along the east coast with Sydney well over 60%, Brisbane well over 50% and Melbourne well over 40%.
Nine narrowly won in Adelaide with Seven winning in Perth
The Grand Final audience of 2.1 million compares to 1.86 m in 2019 and 2.13 m in 2018.

The Sydney audience was similar to last year, while fewer people in Brisbane watched. Melbourne outrated Brisbane with almost double the 2019 final audience.

2019: NRL GRAND FINAL 1,866,000 832,000 320,000 534,000 87,000 93,000

In Perth, the telethon ranked second for the closing and 4th overall. The NRL final was 5th.

Big jump in Melbourne audience for NRL GF from last year. If only half of them watch the Storm games during the regular season, Nine will be happy.

The FTA premiere of A Star is Born did OK, may pick up extra viewers in timeshifting.

ABC News’ coverage of Daniel Andrews press conference topped multichannels and did very well in Melbourne.

The high numbers for the Sunday Footy Show in Melbourne shows the need for an AFL review show on Sunday morning. Seven has to bring back AFL Game Day next year.

A special sneak peek episode of Bluey season 2 rated much lower than the previous new episode in April (376,000). Consolidated figures will be interesting.

As a Neutral NRL fan, I was very surprised with Perth Telethon outrating NRL in the west. How could this happen?
This year’s NRL GF was much higher than last year with Storm playing in the match. Channel nine should be very happy about this year’s ratings.
NRL GF crowd was much lower than last year which contributed to high ratings.

It’s Perth and it’s NRL.

They were boosted by cutting into Dan Andrews’ press conference only 30 minutes in to the program.

Big numbers for Nine News in Sydney and Melbourne but not Brisbane with an early broadcast.

Melbourne always turn-out in droves for the big dance (which is intriguing with how low the Melbourne NRL audiences had been this year, even the Prelim), would’ve been under 2m metro again had Storm not played it seems.

Nine fell agonisingly short of a 50% share.

Simply due to the Sunday competition, other networks/channels were up on the previous night of the AFL GF.

:joy:

I reckon this one might be adjusted down a bit considering it aired about half an hour late in the Eastern states.

Brilliant figures for the NRL. Nice to see sports provide a bit more life to FTA.

It didn’t rate very well though did it? I think 7 should focus on what works for them. A show more like The Front Bar on a Sunday or Saturday morning is something I think would be better. Change the name and the hosts and call it The Coffee House or something.

Their biggest issue is they copy what 9 do too often. Let them do what they do and be the point of difference.

Storm games usually are on at the same time as AFL games, 9 out of 10 casual viewers (in VIC) would prefer to watch AFL.

What’s coffee got to do with it? Do you also want to change the name of the Grand Final Match to the Grand Final Concert? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

10 preempting Jnr MC for fast tracked Graham Norton didn’t do them any favours, surprisingly rating higher for their 30 min news at 6pm. Even the 5pm bulletin seems to be up a little in recent numbers.

I’d say the show would’ve done okay up against the Grand Final, with time shifting, catch up and encores being so prevalent this could have made up for any shortfall in linear viewers.

Heaven forbid they could have simulcast that episode on Shake too, it couldn’t have done much worse than to rate 0.4% surely.

No matter what Seven scheduled against the NRL Grand Final, it’s still not going to rate. I actually applaud Seven for scheduling this movie. I saw this movie for the first time and I love it. I will add more about this movie in Movies on TV thread

Time difference would be a factor. The match was on from 4.30-6.30pm WST

Good ratings for the NRL GF

While Nine will no doubt be happy with the ratings for last night’s NRL Grand Final, given how much the Penrith Panthers were hyped up by the media during the week (before fizzling out on the field last night…) I probably would’ve expected higher Sydney ratings.

Quite respectable figures in Melbourne, although would the match have received over 600k if the Storm weren’t playing?

I’m not. Rugby league is pretty much a niche affair in Perth, while Telethon on Seven is traditionally one of the biggest TV events of the year in the West.

No. Would have been 300-400k.

Agree, no idea what’s going on there

I’m sure they’re thrilled that a rival product, of which that broadcaster pays less, rated a million more LOL

No

@TV.Cynic Following the AFL Grand Final just hours earlier, was the rating for Weekend Sunrise on Sunday morning (particularly Melbourne - nearly 1.6m alone for the GF) rather high?
