Nine wins the last Sunday of the official ratings period by 5 points winning all markets except Perth. Nine and Seven lost market share from the previous Sunday largely to ABC that recorded its equal highest Sunday share of the 2019 survey thanks to Spicks and Specks that was the top entertainment show of the night. That saw Perfect Holiday and Zumbo down from last week.

Sunday Night finished with 379,000 reflecting one of the reasons the show is ending. 60 Minutes was well ahead on 528,000.

Seven’s FTA movie premiere looks to have bombed.

“The Commuter” with Liam Neeson deserved a much better timeslot, maybe a weekend or weeknight when dead, as his “Taken” movies are extremely popular and always reflected in the ratings. It’ll pick up viewers in multi-channel encores.

The Commuter ranked at 29th lower than 10’s NCIS repeat at 21st and SBS’s Einstein and Hawking 28th

Spicks and Specks did very well in the demos too.
Sunday Night finished its 11 year run on a low.

Last night’s competition was hardly fearsome though.

Those ratings for FTA are woefully bad.
Shut it down.

Spicks & Specks was well produced as always - showing panel shows work well with the right creatives behind the scenes.

We need more one-off specials like this from more of our FTA networks.

It’s official: The commercial networks are already in Summer programming mode. The numbers are quite bad now so one wonders how things are going to be when people are on holidays, especially if the recent trend of warmer/drier than average weather (which I’d imagine will result in more people quite understandably, taking advantage of the conditions to do anything except watch TV) continues over Summer.

Can’t say I’m massively surprised that Sunday Night went out with a ratings whimper. But at the same time, those 60 Minutes ratings really make you wonder if we’ll be talking about Nine axing that program in a year or two from now!

Decent enough ratings for the Spicks & Specks AusMusic special, but that’s about the most positive thing you can say.

But what sort of a timeslot is 9:30pm for a movie premiere!?

Fair. But clearly Seven didn’t have a lot of confidence in it.

Has the shine come off Hamish and Andy?

Maybe. But they premiered “Murder on the Orient Express” in the same timeslot a few weeks back which also did just as poor.

Knowing Seven’s oldies demographic and how Poirot appeals to that (and we see it rate strong every few nights in total people on 9Gem), a Friday night or definitely a Saturday night would’ve done much better, probably 350-500k!

It’s Seven’s money, they can waste it (or not depending if they get it back from progeam sponsors) how they see fit.

Disappointing numbers for the last ever SN

Pretty much sums up why the show has been axed

Sunday 22 Nov 2015 had four programs over a million. As it happens in fifth place was Sunday Night with 850k. Sad times for the industry nowadays.

That’s cos most of the networks are not making an effort on Sunday at the moment .
