Another big win for Nine thanks to SOO Game 2. This preliminary number compares to last year’s Sunday game 2 that had 2,122,000.

Nine’ network share was over 50% in Sydney and Brisbane (main channel also over 50%!).

Seven won the other markets - Perth by >15%, Adelaide by >13%.

Both MasterChef and House Rules did well to rate higher than the previous Sunday.

Neck and neck between SOO, House Rules and MasterChef in Melbourne.
SOO pulled a record crowd at Optus Stadium but in ratings it failed to beat Seven News in Perth. However, the Perth audience of 167,000 is a new record audience for SOO in the city.
The Matildas’ dramatic exit from the Women’s World Cup did quite well for SBS even though the match was played in the middle of the night Australian time.

Big numbers for the State Of Origin, as expected.

Eat my words out. Last year’s Origin 2 was about 2 million, this year it dropped to 1.96m, despite a record crowd at Optus stadium. This match was a lopsided match and it failed to beat 7 news in Adelaide and Perth as well as Melbourne.
Most people are going into streaming these days without any commentary and ads.

Stupid of Nine to blow up their Sunday nights, the biggest viewing night of the week, in non NRL states. They should return that second game to mid week and consider alternative pre match and post match programming for Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

No, most people are not watching the game via streaming.

Just outside the top 20 was FBI in 21st place.

The Norway v Australia World Cup match ranked 33rd but Italian News ranked 23rd - assuming that was the penalty shoot out.

But fans are at home using alternate streams to watch the Origin match. As well as this, People we’re at the pubs to watch Origin on big screens.

Game one of the SOO was streamed by 69,000 Australia wide (incl regionals).

Agree - by comparison, Wednesday night’s game one shares - Sydney >60%, Brisbane >70% plus wins in Melbourne by >15% and Adelaide by almost 10% for Nine. In Perth Nine had a main channel win and was <0.5% off behind Seven in network share.

Radical theory (which of course they’d never even consider LOL). But now 9Gem had an “HD” channel keep The Voice finals on in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth on the main channel and SOO on 9Gem. Imagine Nine’s ratings! Be absolutely huge, like a for sure record share for 9Gem and 300k+ (based on this season of Voice) guaranteed in Melbourne alone.

9go performed poorly, must be one of its worst shares in a long time? Could’ve been much higher for Nine.

Well, the viewers for SOO on 9 have to come from somewhere so it’s not odd to assume some of them came from 9Go and other channels.

Pretty sure having G2 being played on a Sunday was an NRL decision in order to have a standalone rep weekend which means each team only has 1 bye weekend each season instead of 2

The metro and national peak figures are here:

I can’t remember if it is ok to post Twitter links with ratings figures.

A bit disappointing that Nine couldn’t get over 2 million for last night’s State of Origin?

Now don’t get me wrong, 1.96 million is still a really good figure for this day and age. But considering that the weather was cold, wet and miserable in Sydney last night (ie, ideal for TV viewing at home) I would’ve been expecting a higher number in this market.

For the decider on July 10, you’d have to imagine that Nine will be wanting somewhere around 1 million viewers in the Sydney market alone.

Yep, I agree. A few might be opting for the 9Now streams but most are still watching the coverage on terrestrial TV…for now.

Now had live State of Origin coverage been available on Fox League, you definitely would’ve seen far lower ratings for the Nine coverage - perhaps around the same or only slightly higher than the 6pm news figures in Sydney & South East Queensland.

Didn’t help the game was a blowout and settled with half an hour plus to go. Close games always help boost the average.

True. But you’d think more Sydney viewers (maybe not over 1 million, but surely 900k+ at least) would’ve been happy to watch a game where the Blues were dominating?

Totally a stab in the dark but people might be more inclined to go to bed earlier on a Sunday given it’s the start of the week?

1.96 million was a good figure for Nine, considering that the State of Origin audience numbers are in decline from 2016.
