Nine scored a huge victory to start the week 12 points clear of Seven winning across all markets though Perth was close. Compared to two weeks ago Nine is up 2 points with Seven down 2 and 10 down 1.

Nine’s win is thanks to a season high 1.2 million for Married at First Sight topping the night with lead out 60 Minutes also doing well in preliminary numbers. That put it higher than the combined audience for Seven’s Kolas Rescue and Dancing on 10. Dancing recovered from last week’s low but failed to reach 500k. The Good Doctor didn’t help Seven’s result below 400k. ABC did good numbers with Spicks And Speck special but the documentary Australian Dream underperformed.

DWTS adjusted:

Elimination 498,000
Rest of program 481,000

Nine dominated from 6pm to 10.30pm.
Koala Rescue posted a respectable total but The Good Doctor will again have to rely on timeshifting to boost its ratings.

MAFS is really starting to grow and it’s still so early in the season. I think that’s the first time it’s topped 1.2mill this year. The show itself has more than double of what DWTS and Koala Rescue are getting combined.

DWTS seems to have been damaged a bit by Firefight last week and didn’t fully recover this week. Below 500k would be a worry for 10 and it’s not even great in the demos either.

Compared to recent seasons the number is roughly on track to its usual performance. The equivalent episode last year had 1.29 million and in 2018 it was 1.36 million.

Not bad figures for Good Doctor. No other US show gets those figures.

10 managed to gain again. Dancing isn’t doing great though.

Alicia certainly owns News on a Sunday. Seven either need to remove Amor or bring back Bec. I reckon she could fix that figure. Mike is as boring as batshit.

Seven News in 3rd place in both Adelaide and Melbourne. Is this normal?

Highest news rating of the week across all cities is normally Nine Melbourne on a Sunday. Alicia is normally anywhere from 50-120k ahead. Bit more competitive during the week. The loyal Jen Keyte viewers essentially switched to Alicia.

Which is why she needs to replace Hitch on retirement. She can hold an audience.

Nine News is starting to win on the weekends in Brisbane as well now that Kay has stepped away from the news desk.

I can’t see Tony Jones allowing that to happen. haha

Totally agree. She is a fantastic presenter. Looks like the weekend figures prove that. That’s a huge lead she had last night.
I’m certainly not saying Mike Amor is bad either.

That figure for DWTS isn’t too bad given where Ten was at last year with Sunday Night Takeaway and what their Sunday nights normally rate these days. If it can rebound to 500k that would be considered a success I would think.

It’s just DWTS is a horrendously expensive production that would command at least 600k.

DWTS would rate better with a stronger lead in or if it started at 7pm. The Sunday Project is clearly a problem for 10. A one hour blockbuster game show from 6-7pm would work much better.

Wouldn’t it depend on sponsorship? If it’s attracting the sponsors it doesn’t matter.

I don’t agree. Shows can rate at other times of the year with it as a lead out. Married is just a powerhouse.

…and probably also why Nine Melbourne would be wise to follow in the footsteps of Sydney (who’ve successfully had their top presenters on Sunday night bulletins for about a decade now) by having a Sunday-Thursday & Friday/Saturday presenter roster in the post-Hitchener era.

Putting aside my less than flattering opinion about the program, I’d actually go as far as saying that Married At First Sight is a cultural phenomenon (incredibly rare for a program on Australian television in this day and age) due to the unescapable publicity and discussion this show is getting just about everywhere - websites, social media, magazines, newspapers, radio and on Wednesday/Thursday night, we’ll almost certainly see a MAFS review on Gogglebox.
