A big Sunday win for Seven with a third of the audience watching the network thanks to wins with the news at 6pm and The Voice at 7pm.

The Voice’s penultimate episode of the season recorded the show’s highest audience since launch. 7News Spotlight that followed was up 20k from the previous week.

Second-placed Nine did well with news but the launch of a new season of Celebrity Apprentice disappointed and will be a headache for the network. With just 404,000 watching, Nine was in the rare position of having a reality franchise rank fourth in its timeslot. The result compared to last year’s launch that was spilt coded into 682,000 for the show and 810,000 for the boardroom. It was Nine’s lowest rated Sunday of the survey. Later, 60 Minutes won its timeslot.

Meanwhile over on 10 MasterChef was 30k lower than the previous week though the network had its second-best Sunday of the survey.

The morning’s broadcast of Insiders made the top 5 – and that was the main channel number only with another 276k watching on ABC News. ABC News with 4 entries in the top 20 had its best Sunday share of the year.

Meanwhile The Project at 7pm with an audience of just 364,000 made the top 5 in two key demos where it outrated the launch of Celebrity Apprentice.

ABC’s post-election coverage did very well especially Insiders. I think this is the first time the show made it into the top 5.

EDIT: in May 2019, the post-election episode of Insiders came 7th (in main channel figures). The show pulled 436,000 on main channel and 172,000 on ABC News.

Grand Designs did not air last night, replaced by the one-hour ABC News special and the repeat of Hard Quiz.

The Melbourne figures for Seven News and The Voice will have to be adjusted since they both started 10 minutes late, after the AFL went overtime (Hawthorn beat Brisbane Lions by five points).

From Nine:

  • Celebrity Apprentice Australia - Launch was a timeslot winner with People 25-54 and People 16-39 in Sydney
  • Celebrity Apprentice Australia - Launch recorded a Live + VOD BVOD Audience of 40,000, an increase of 7% YoY
  • Nine News Sunday was the No. 1 Program for all key demos across 5 City Metro
  • 60 Minutes won its timeslot in Sydney and Brisbane with Total People.
  • 60 Minutes recorded a Live + VOD BVOD Audience of 26,000, an increase of 88% YoY
  • NRL dominated its timeslot in Sydney and Brisbane.

From 10:

MasterChef Australia Sunday:

  • #2 in its timeslot.
  • #2 in its timeslot in under 50s and all key demos (25 to 54s, 18 to 49s and 16 to 39s).
  • #2 entertainment show in under 50s and all key demos.
  • Live stream audience up 31% vs. same episode in 2021.

The Sunday Project 7pm:

  • Up 8% week-on-week.
  • The Project Full Hour: Up 16% week-on-week.

What do networks do? It seems that only Entertainment programming isn’t really what rates or draws eyeballs at the moment. Seems things like Celeb Apprentice, MasterChef, aren’t what viewers want. What do viewers want then? Big event TV only?

Seven would have to be nervous around MKR returning.

Looks like Masterchef will be the biggest beneficiary in the next few weeks whilst Big Brother and Celeb Apprentice compete for the battle of the duds.

Nine’s best results are usually on Sundays so for Celebrity Apprentice to rate just above 400K speaks volume of the fact that the show has tanked from the get go. Doesn’t bode well for Ninja Warrior or Beauty and the Geek. Only The Block will be able to recover some ground for Nine later this year.

News B won all markets except Adelaide with unprecedented 6 figure ratings in Sydney and Melbourne.

Only 1.1% share on GEM for the French Open. Not unexpected so I’m not sure why 9 are bothering to air it.

Would this be for the GWS v West Coast game?

Just checked - It is just an entry for “SEVEN’S AFL: SUNDAY AFTERNOON FOOTBALL” but only for the main channel.

That game ranked 70th but ranked 2nd in Perth,

Contractually obligated to I imagine as part of the deal

Wonder if it is something like “Post Match” before 6pm, where the game was nail-biting and even went until 10min past 6 in Melbourne on the main channel?

It is a good way to expose and promote the coverage though, including Stan Sport.

Expect audiences to get high if any Australians progress or someone like Rafael Nadal. Sadly no more Ash Barty though.

Does it mean Fremantle v Collingwood ranked 3rd in Perth? It pulled 77,000 as part of SUNDAY AFTERNOON FOOTBALL entry.

So it’s actually the opposite of what we think, the higher-rating Fremantle game (probably over 100k in Perth) wasn’t included in the five city coding, which in turn deflated that audience/ranking.

I wonder if it was due to the 2:10pm start of the first (West Coast) game? Usually it’s earlier at 1:10pm (so 11:10am live Perth time), where I have seen in the GWN7 RegionalTam ratings Seven code a Game 1 previously.

That is woeful. You really have to question the calibre of contestants this season. So many former reality show contestants are supposedly “celebrities” on this show. Reality TV is really eating itself to death.

ABC News dominated the top 20 multi-list, with 14 listings (and having all top 10 spots), and 4 spots in the actual top 20.

Insiders on ABC came in at 4th place. If you include ABC News numbers of Insiders, you get 764,000 viewers. Quite an impressive achievement for a Sunday morning politics show.

The Voice Semis did well. MasterChef was steady. Celebrity Apprentice Launch didn’t get off to a good start.

Nine should have launched Celebrity Apprentice tonight. It would have done a lot better to launch against Big Brother, rather than be up against The Voice semi final.

Also the episode was just short of 2 hours - what do they expect? These shows with ridiculously long episodes multiple nights a week are just too much of a commitment for people.

As with all the revivals, I expect it to launch semi-decently for the first season and then dwindle down back to earth in subsequent seasons.

On another note, very rare for The Voice to be climbing towards the Grand Final when previous seasons indicate a decline in interest after the blinds. Looks like Seven has made the right move to limit it to one day a week to reduce viewer fatigue.
