Some higher than usual numbers for Sunday. Ninjas are up on the previous Sunday to its best number since the launch episode and House Rules has is highest rating in seven weeks.

Ten scores its best Sunday share of the survey thanks to MasterChef’s best Sunday result followed by MasterClass’s best result for 2019.

Looks like viewers didn’t react negatively to George Calombaris by switching off.

MasterChef masterclass posted its best figures for 2019 as well.

It might be a stronger than usual Sunday for Masterchef but I still would have thought it would get a bit more being so close to the finale. It will be interesting if it gets any more momentum tonight. At least the Master class pairing worked well and sustained a lot of the audience for the second hour.

I don’t think 95% of viewers care. Sure I don’t agree with what George did but it makes no difference to the show which has already been filmed. I’m not going to just stop watching a season I’ve watched for weeks because of it.

I think those that were going to stop watching would have already done so. George’s history of wage theft & assault were already well known. Perhaps more will boycott next season if George remains a judge? MCA has lost 25% of its audience this year - it really can’t afford to lose too much more, particularly given it gets a lousy lead in.
Both Ninja & House Rules receive a lead in above 1 million. Poor old MCA gets less than half of that.

…and despite now being produced in Melbourne, Sydneysiders still love Australian Ninja Warrior with the program scoring a higher number of viewers in Sydney (mind you, that could have something to do with Nine Sydney’s strong lead-ins on Sunday nights during Winter) than Melbourne.

Why would this even matter? Sure, it might be nice to local viewers to recognise locations or their city, but viewers aren’t going to tune-out in mass because The Block isn’t based in Sydney or MKR studio is in Sydney, with loads more show examples across all networks and timeslots…

Side note: Would however like to see more from the 3 smaller cities, especially Adelaide (who have a lot of dramas and SVOD productions coming from there now) and Perth. The Force still films in WA, yes?

It doesn’t, although I do seem to recall someone else on this forum (perhaps @Super_SC) predicting that Ninja Warrior would experience a ratings fall in Sydney due to production moving to Melbourne.

Obviously where a show is filmed doesn’t make one iota of difference to Sydneysiders, although I do wonder if some Melbournians would switch off a show if production were to move to Sydney…

Maybe, but perhaps more so when ratings are way smaller in this environment and more noticed? Example: MasterChef used to be filmed in Sydney for 4 years, with the harbour, opera house, etc seen almost every episode and Sydney locations for challenges that many outside Sydney may not know (I think the judges who were Melbourne based had accomodation there while filming).

But it didn’t affect Melbourne ratings and other markets? They were the same as Sydney and often higher, in the shows peak of 2009 and more so 2010 both cities would be in the 500-600k+, many late season eps did 700k, 800k, even 900k and I think one of two before the finale did 1m in Melbourne!

It does seem to be more of a Melbourne thing. I’m not sure why, because there are many programs produced in Melbourne.

Maybe the could move the production of the Project to Sydney so we can find out?

Really? The Block always lower in Sydney (filmed in Melbourne), could mention a number of other examples.

But I was saying it shouldn’t matter and generally doesn’t, Melbourne and Sydney always pull big numbers and are within relative margin for the top rating shows. Any effect is minor than major.

The Sunday Project is already coming from Sydney.

But the Block had higher ratings in Melbourne when it was filmed in Sydney?

There’s always one dill. And have you seen how the Sunday Project rates in Melbourne?

Yep, we’ve got your number. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Der! That’s my point. Location does not matter.

Expected better grammar from you. Anyway, I think the Sunday Project is a perfect example of how Melbourne reacts to a program being shifted from Melbourne. Wonder how SEACHANGE will fare?

Apologies from my phone for its poor auto correction.

At least your phone has manners.

 who knows then
