Nine off to a good start for the week with a four point win, its biggest since before the Olympics. Married At First Sight took out the number one position with an easy win at 7pm despite dropping from last week’s result. 60 Minutes that followed was also a timeslot winner, up on last week.

The new season of Dancing With the Stars made the top 10. However, All Star season premiere was down on last year’s season opener that had 744,000. In the key 25-54 demo the show ranked 8th (below The Project 7pm). Perhaps the show is not a good fit for Seven’s target demo anymore. Later, the Winter Olympic Figure Skating was also in the top 10 with Olympic viewing falling away after that, the closing ceremony missing the top 20. The 2018 ceremony had 508,000.

Over on 10, Survivor was down 30k week-on-week while ranking second or third in key demos.

Grand Designs NZ wasn’t able to keep up ABC’s Sunday numbers in the post news timeslot, down 130k from Muster Dogs the previous week.

I somewhat think DWTS would be better suited in Winter with no Married.

Good for Nine News last night winning Sydney and Melbourne. They almost won Adelaide as well.

Nine beat Seven on two occasions during the Winter Olympics period.

The pay TV ratings for T20 cricket between Australia and Sri Lanka were slightly lower than game 4 on Friday, despite the earlier start.

Soft figures for the season premiere of Dancing With Daryl and Sonia.

It’s designed and programmed to go up against MAFS as a fill in show. It’s doing it’s job.

People keep saying the same with Survivor but the networks need to put something up against MAFS. No matter what is against it is going to suffer. Probably next year the way to go for the networks would be to try a new format/concept against MAFS rather than dilute other shows that they rely on.

Still you would think that DWTS should work as an alternative to MAFS because it skews older.

That’s normally the strongest day for Nine News in Adelaide; traditionally it beats Seven, one of the reasons why Seven threw a lot of money at Cosi to get him from Nine on Sundays at 5:30 to Seven for news lead in.

Sunday at 5:30 and 6pm major battle grounds for Adelaide’s Nine and Seven.

I get what you mean, compared to say SAS, but that was a lot of money (Winter Olympis, marketing and producing the show) to be considered “filler”.

Considering the lead-up, Seven would’ve surely expected no less than last year’s launch (700k-odd metro), in fact probably even higher and Married didn’t do 1m+ metro. So I’d guess Seven management would be a bit flat today, really.

DWTS got a similar number on Ten I think.

I recall it was high 300s into the 400s. Which I assume is why it isn’t in 10 anymore.

Dancing on 10 opened to 585,000. It ranked 5th in the 25-54 demo on that night where it had roughly twice as many viewers as Seven last night in that age group. In 16-39 it had more than double Seven’s audience.

An average number for DWTS, coming of the back of the Winter Olympics. MAFS really is unstoppable.

I did read that the ‘halo effect’ from the Olympics is fairly small, but DWTS launched on a night they were still running competition so it makes the result look even worse. I don’t think Seven would consider the show filler either and would have been planning for a bigger audience.

Dancing would be better to compete against the likes of Celeb Apprentice, Ninja or Beauty and the Geek. Against MAFS, it will only keep their head above the water but nothing more.

The Winter Games haven’t really been the knockout hit Seven was hoping for so the halo effect would’ve been miniscule compared to let’s say if it launched out of the AFL grand final or Tokyo Olympics last year. It’s similar to what happened with The Voice Generations. If the cricket had been performing well or if they had the tennis that show would’ve launched to double its figures.

I would argue that’s mainly because it hasn’t really faced any stiff competition over the past few years. Seven can’t program a first quarter of the ratings year to save themselves (and I think SAS won’t do well airing against MAFS) while plenty has been said about 10’s struggles generally.

Add to the fact that the general taste of Australian audiences towards reality shows like MAFS is confusingly extraordinary.
