Nine continued its winning streak as official ratings returned. Nine’s main channel share topped the network shares of its competitors; 10 improved 5 points on its 2020 Sunday average to post its best Sunday share of the survey. Nine won all markets as well as the key demo groups.

Season 2 of Lego masters launched to 1.24 million, down from the first season that had 1.37 million. MasterChef held to above one million viewers for its first elimination compared to 638,000 for the equivalent episode of 2019. The last Sunday episode of MasterChef to top 1 million was July 2016. Meanwhile House Rules was steady with 630,000. ABC’s Spicks and Specks and Mystery Road also did well against tough competition. 60 Minutes was down on recent results while The Project posted one of its highest Sunday audiences ever.

The morning broadcast of One World on Seven made the top 20. Forrest Gump ranked 23rd.

Mystery Road’s season 2 premiere held up again tough competition, but its audience was lower than the series debut on June 3, 2018 which averaged 786,000 over two episodes.
Three programs topped 400,000 in Melbourne (Lego Masters, Nine News and MasterChef). That hasn’t happened in several years.
People preferred to watch Seven’s telecast of One World: Together at Home than 10’s.
Nine said this morning that Lego Masters premiere was also the #1 live program streamed on BVOD last night.

Masterchef did really well up against new competition from Lego Masters and House Rules didn’t lose many viewers from last week.

Good ratings for the return of Mystery Road and Spicks and Specks. but both beaten by The Virus.

Seven let themselves down by running an old, often repeated movie in prime time. No Sunday Night. No decent content. Sad.

I think there is a lot for each network to be happy with last night to be honest. Even Seven, held their audience for House Rules way more than I expected given the competition.

Decent night of FTA last night.

The number for House Rules surprises me, a little higher then expected, that goes to MasterChef as well, a solid effort for maintaining its 1’000’000+ viewer’s. Lego Masters’ launch was to be expected, the show couldn’t have come at a better time.

Not really. There are millions more people trapped in their homes due to lockdowns, who are watching free to air TV. and the ratings reflect that.

If anything, the surprise is that Lego Masters didn’t do better than last year with all those extra viewers available. Without them, Lego Masters would have done a lot lot worse this year compared to last year.

MC over 1m on a Sunday, a rare occurrence! Nine and 10 have a battle on their hands in Melbourne between that and Lego too. And both shows neck-and-neck with young audiences. Coming episodes will be interesting indeed!

As for HR, would like to comment after tonight’s episode, as Seven News probably the sole reason for it holding over 600k. It still lost 623k from its lead-in! (Nine grew 140k odd and 10 went up 400k)

Isn’t The Virus a 10 minute show though? Being on the back of the 7pm News would have helped too.

Great numbers for The Project. I was surprised Masterchef was able to stay above 1 million with the added competition. And, despite being 4th in its time slot, House Rules still did okay.

Yes - ABC News on Sunday used to run until 7:40pm now the last 10 minutes is “The Virus”.

It actually gives a more accurate idea of the rate of switch-off for the ABC following the news, which I found interesting.

Channel 9 did sensationally well thanks to Lego Masters though it was down from last year’s premiere. Nine’s primary channel outrated Seven Network Total Share and 10 Network Total Share.
Meanwhile, The SUnday Project did quite well in its 7pm timeslot. 10 News First Sunday 6pm even cracked in the top 20.

From Nine:

LEGO MASTERS LAUNCHES AS THE HIGHEST REALITY TV PREMIERE OF 2020

LEGO Masters was Australia’s No.1 program with People 25-54, People 16-39 and GS + Child, with last night’s dominant result the highest rating reality TV premiere of 2020.

60 Minutes was a dominant timeslot winner across the 5 City and in all metro capitals.

From 10:

MasterChef Australia:

  • Biggest audience for an episode 5 since 2015.
  • Up 58% compared to episode 5 in 2019.

The Sunday Project 7pm:

  • Biggest audience since October 2018, its second biggest audience ever.
  • The Sunday Project 6.30pm: Biggest audience since October 2018.

10 News First Sunday 6pm: Biggest audience ever.

Wow. Everything rated better than I thought it would. People having to stay inside is really lifting all these reality shows + the news.

Incredible. Who know Masterchef could reinvent itself successfully after 12 years - i feel like the show has relaunched itself twice now in its 12 year history - I think around Season 7 it surged and now against in Season 12. 10 must be stoked and the producers should be proud - this couldn’t easily gone the other way.

Lego Masters also launching incredibly well, i really thought it would steal away from Masterchef but they both held up very well.

House Rules also doing ok, better than MKR and it hasn’t been hurt by the competition of Lego Masters.

Solid night on FTA.

I reckon Seven programmed a movie last night in response to Quantum of Solace good (500k+ metro) ratings at 8pm last Sunday on Nine?

However it didn’t see the same success (lower lead-in and an older heavily repeated movie wouldn’t have helped).

Wonder with Nine’s typical over-runs and time adjustments whether this will change or not? MC’s launch last Monday became the highest and last night pipped by the smallest of margins.

This is what happened last night. It appeared to be a stand-alone show rather than part of the news and it ran until approximately 7:42pm and was followed by Spicks and Specks.

It is continuing

In news, Seven News beat Nine News in all markets except Melbourne. Nine News Perth isn’t doing so well with ABC News beating it. With Lego Masters, Masterchef and House Rules, all markets preferred Lego Masters. Surprisingly, Perth though has more faith in House Rules than Masterchef. Nine News Late Edition fared well than The Latest on most nights though we’ll have to see how it fares on a regular basis and other weeknights.

Good figures for all 7:30 reality content. ABC did well last night as well. It was a really good episode of Spicks and Specks as well. The Project also so some pleasing gains on Sunday. Not sure if FBI will be adjusted down though.
