True but given the challenge of audience drift away from free-to-air tv I feel it is in the network’s best interests to aim for dominance or content that attracts closer to that magic million so many are trying and failing to reach.

One factor that led me to use the word ‘flop’ was the post-Block ratings. Despite airing opposite less competition it could not recoup some of the debut audience even, that it lost. Unacceptable in my opinion given the thumbs down viewers gave Family Feud Fight and The Sunday Lowject.

#22

What can they possibly try though? They’ve tried everything pretty much and nothing has stuck. Is it just because it’s Seven that people won’t watch or is it because of the quality (I suspect it’s more to do with the latter)?

#23

I put a suggestion in my original post. I know it’s a tough problem and out of all the attempts that were made, All Together Now has certainly been the best performing of a bad bunch IMO. My preference is for a family drama in the 7pm Sunday slot but Seven have none of them in the pipeline. Nine could find it a good fit for Seachange at the back half of next year. But back to Seven, they are the number one network so of course it is about the content. People aren’t interested in what they have been serving up and they need something that keeps the attention and loyalty of the MKR/House Rules audience.

#24

A local version of The Good Doctor would be nice. I agree that dramas and comedy would work better for Seven towards the end of the year (think 800 words type). Instead of pouring their money towards their reality shows, they could invest into four long dramas (two airing every weeks), a comedy show or two, their two big realities (MKR and House Rules) and possibly some of their smaller reality shows like Instant Hotel/All Together Now/Zumbo. That should carry them well into the end of the year.

800 Words/Wanted/Secret Daughter etc. could’ve had a chance to rate better if they were on at 7:30. Now they’re all dead because they were shunted off to behind shows that no one watches.

#25

What you’ve suggested would be much more expensive and high risk. I am not sure how sustainable that would be in the long term. Stripped reality formats aren’t going anywhere anytime soon but no network has found ones that carry them through the year. That’s where drama could come in handy.

I do agree though that 800 Words, Secret Daughter and Blake belong in 7-7.30pm slots.
