The new season of Survivor kicked off on Sunday and stirred up the results across the networks. Seven came out on top with the top network share, up 3 from last week, its best Sunday for five weeks. Nine’s main channel was number one but Nine lost share, down 4 week-on-week, its lowest for five weeks. Meanwhile 10 recorded its best Sunday share of the survey year so far. Elsewhere ABC was steady and SBS up 1.

Nine won the three east coast markets while Seven won Adelaide and Perth. Nine was third in Perth. Nine won 25-54 while 10 won 16-39.

In a close contest between the reality formats, all scored over 700,000 with the Beauties just ahead of Survivor, with Farmers third.

The launch of Survivor with 750k is well up from the 2020 launch that had 623,000.

Otherwise, Seven News topped the night with its third highest rating of the year followed by Nine then ABC News.

Later 60 Minutes managed +500,000 while 7News Spotlight and The Latest that followed had moderate results.

Note there was an error with the OzTAM table provided for Beauty and The Geek - it has been manually corrected - but may look different to official tables.

Good numbers for The Australian Survivor premiere Launch and this show was number 1 in all demos.

Is there a coding issue with BATG?

I saw figures that it was mid 700s. Not 400

Survivor was light years ahead in the demos. Almost double the audience in all three key demos.

Pretty high ratings for the repeat of Innocent on the ABC.

Strong launch for Australian Survivor, although Farmer wasn’t too far behind, with TFAW winning in all cities except Melbourne. Beauty and the Geek continues to trail.

Not bad for 7NEWS Spotlight: Delta on board.

Weekend Sunrise gets over 100k in Sydney again.

Very, very interesting to see Seven News Sydney only 3k behind Nine News Sydney despite Nine showing Sunday Afternoon NRL as usual.

Yes there is an error in that OzTAM table provided - I assume the prime time rating was averaged with the afternoon one?

BATG rated 776,000 It finished 2nd in the demos behind Survivor.

Great launch for Survivor. Step aside Masterchef, Survivor and I’m a Celebrity are now your new top tentpole shows.

Not that two weeks means a definitive trend but it looks like Seven News Adelaide is winning on Sundays having won this one and last one. Perhaps moving Jane Doyle to Sunday-Thursday will pay off in the long term.

Nope. It won. Issues with coding.

Thanks legend.

Good ratings for Survivor. I think the timing was probably perfect to launch a new season of the show, with two of the biggest markets in lockdown it probably helped gain some extra viewers (much like MasterChef benefited similarly last year).

Was kind of surprised at first to see Beauty and the Geek so low, but now it makes sense.

Farmer and Beauty continue to battle it out whilst Survivor comes out on top just goes to show such a bizarre decision for Nine and Seven to go head to head with their romance shows.

Ooof Twist

Update: I’ve manually adjusted the table to be correct.

Nine says the error was OzTAM mistakenly averaging the Nine prime time program with 9Go’s encore - not a Nine error.

but Sydney is still nearly half Melbourne numbers…doesn’t seem to have made a difference to Sydney love for Survivor

In other cities:

Nine News Melbourne took the lead across the hour, but Seven News wasn’t far off. I assume the match ended earlier so viewers were able to jump to Postcards/Nine News.

Seven Brisbane needs to address their growing ratings slump. They were once outrating the competition on weekends, and now they can’t beat Nine any day of the week (with the occasional win being an exception).

Viewers might be more pleased with a familiar face on Sunday - Adelaide’s roster now matches that of Sydney and Melbourne, and it is helping the latter state’s numbers quite a lot.
