Data © OzTAM Pty Limited 2021. The Data may not be reproduced, published or communicated (electronically or in hard copy) in whole or in part, without the prior written consent of OzTAM. “Overnight” figures include “Live” (programs broadcast during the 2am-2am broadcast day) and “As Live” (programs recorded and then watched within the same broadcast day). “Consolidated” figures include Live, As Live and “Time Shift” (programs recorded and then watched within seven days of the initial broadcast).

Seven had an easy win in total people on a totally Olympic free Sunday. It was four points clear of Nine while ABC was higher that most of it recent Sunday results. Seven won all markets. Nine, however won the key 25-54 and 16-39 demo groups. Seven was second in 25-54 while 10 ranked second in 16-39.

The Voice was down 100k from the previous week’s Sunday episode but still had an easy win. The Block’s first reveal was the highest number so far for the series but well down on previous year’s results. Meanwhile Survivor picked up +50k extra viewers for its best Sunday since launch.

Later, Nine did well with 60 Minutes, securing its highest audience since week 17 with Nine News Late that followed also doing well.

The debut of The Newsreader for ABC managed 552,000 to rank 10th for the night. That compares to the debut of final season of Jack Irish in June that had 521,000.

Seven’s Homicide: With Ron Riddles also picked up a solid post reality audience of 576,000, significantly up on some of Seven’s previous Sunday offerings.

Two spots for ABC News in the top 20.

Seven will be very impressed with The Voice maintaining a figure over 1 million for Sundays.

Seven News and Nine News were very close in Sydney, even with the NRL providing the lead-in for Nine. Sydney Weekender must be doing well for Seven.

Solid start for The Newsreader.

Nine News won in all cities except Perth (where it fell to Seven). That was where the Western Derby was on Channel 7 in WA. Seven News Melbourne would have got higher numbers had they televised a Melbourne-Adelaide game instead of the Gold Coast-Essendon game.
The Voice continue to beat The Block in total people.

Solid start for Homicide with Ron Iddles and The Newsreader.

The Voice benefited from the news lead-in in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. While Nine News beat Seven News in Melbourne, there was a big drop-off to The Block.

The 10am portion of Weekend Breakfast made the top 20 for the first time.

Agree. A solid start for both Homicide with Ron Iddles and The Newsreader.

The Block may be down on previous years, but it did come 4th, which is good. But it is for the “room reveal” episode, so numbers will probably be down for the rest of the week. Also, surprised Nine didn’t code it into two-parts like they did last year (aka: “normal portion” followed by the “room reveal” segment).

I am gobsmacked that The Voice is sustaining these numbers. The show has definitely found it’s feet with Seven’s audience. It must have picked up quite a few viewers that did not watch it in recent years. It’s even doing well in demos too which doesn’t always happen on Seven.

Looks like Seven made a wise decision picking up The Voice. It is excellent competition for The Block which is languishing.

Good to see The Newsreader do well. Can’t help thinking that show would have done better with a more inspiring title.

Wow The Voice is doing really well this year. I thought usually interest would wane as the blind auditions continue but it’s not bad at all and I reckon Seven would be pleased that their gamble has paid off.

Survivor continues to rate solidly. The Block picks up as expected for reveals but it wouldn’t surprise me if they go for another ‘Room Winner’ segment in the future if the ratings don’t pick up.

I think going by the feedback on twitter last night to The Newsreader and what appears to be glowing reviews the audience will be sustained next week or even increase if there is lots of chatter about the show this week.

12 Nine POSTCARDS

Brisbane

Guess that partially explains Nine’s ability to be competitive and win on Sundays.

Seven are probably hoping that when Cosi moves over to them the same thing will happen.

As much as I don’t particularly like The Voice either, it’s good to see that show smashing The Block. Hopefully this season turns out to be the last for Nine’s product placement fest disguised as renovation “reality”!

Reasonable ratings for The Newsreader on ABC-TV.

I suspect Nine will give it at least one more season next year as a last boost to get the ratings up, but if they do axe it, then what’s the bet Seven will pick up the rights?

The Block is old and tired these days with the same old tricks Nine think they can get away with to ‘entertain’ the audience. By contrast The Voice and Survivor are much more exciting.

LOL, you’re probably right given Seven’s recent track record when it comes to picking up Nine off-cuts!

Agreed.

I’d even go as far as saying that certain aspects of The Block are insulting to the intelligence of viewers.

If the show is axed for rating badly on Nine I reckon Seven wouldn’t even want to touch it. The Voice was still performing alright last year when Seven picked it up so it’s a bit of a different situation.

Just remember that in the case of both NRL and AFL, it’s likely they pick up viewers as they near the conclusion of the game, particularly if it’s a close or local match. So it is likely that for the half an hour they are head to head the sport is actually leading.
