The launch of Junior MasterChef brought just over 500,000 viewers to 10 last night well behind The Block and 7News Presents special. It did help make 10’s network share look a lot better with its best Sunday result for 10 weeks.

It was another comparatively easy win for Nine though with wins along the east coast while Seven won in Adelaide and Perth. Nine won the key demos while 10 managed to rank second.

The Block delivered a season high audience with 60 Minutes also putting in a strong performance. The better lead in saw FBI get a boost making an appearance in the top 20 for 10 while the Rugby Union test also made an appearance.

Compared to the previous week, Nine was down almost 5 points, with 10 up 4 and Seven up 2. SBS dropped 2 while ABC was steady.

Seven News Brisbane won the night over Nine. Close competition between Seven and Nine News Adelaide, with Nine News Adelaide faring better than ABC News.

Who would have thought that a special about the cruising industry crisis will double the audience for a cricket documentary (The Test last Sunday)?

10 will be pretty disappointed with the ratings for the return of Junior MasterChef and will be hoping that more viewers will tune in as the series progresses. The only good news for the network was its sporting coverage (rugby union and MotoGP) did very well.

The numbers for Seven News Adelaide seemed pretty low especially with the lead-in from SANFL preliminary final coverage.

Junior Masterchef really struggled. Probably doesn’t help 10 has struggled the last few nights. Hopefully it can pick up some viewers tonight. If it gathers 600k it will be a good win for 10.

Bad Sunday shares have returned for 7Two, even worse than last time, must be one if their worst shares if not worst all year?

It was 7Two’s lowest share for the year so far. The last time the channel had a share that low as January 2017.

The SANFL was not a particularly good lead in in Adelaide. It ranked 13th and was easily beaten by a South Aussie with Cossie repeat on Nine.

We prefer to call it SANFL

Wow

It again demonstrates that the best place for 7 News Spotlight/specials is 7pm Sundays so that it can benefit from/use the news lead-in

Maybe the SANFL PReliminary Final match was a one sided game? I watched the PReliminary Final match and noticed that this game was over during the final quarter. Not a lot of people were at adelaide oval yesterday.

Junior Masterchef started off quite soft, however it did OK in the demos. Channel 10 will be desperately trying to gain more numbers next week thanks to the Bathurst 1000 race (which will be its final race for this year).

Junior MasterChef risks diluting the main series next year. I am a MasterChef fan but lasted less than 30 minutes last night. Watching kids cook just does not interest me as much and the new version was really missing the more fun earlier rounds that the previous version had.

Agreed, hopefully its just a once off series. But I do think I read a report that said that Junior Masterchef would return again next year.

To be fair I think it was a last minute decision to do when Ten realised they wouldn’t have Survivor/Amazing Race this year. It should be a one off.

I actually liked the first episode of Jnr MasterChef. Seems to share the same interest level as the regular MC for me. The gong was a nice touch IMO
And plus even though they’re kids, they can surely cook better than most adults (no offence intended)

I couldn’t watch it I just find kids annoying.

Everyone? Big difference between an investigation and a doco.

I think that’s the case for the wider audience. At least the kids they found were less annoying than ones seen in the past.

Personally I wouldn’t be overly surprised if Ten thought about bringing Junior MasterChef back to our screens for a while, although no doubt Survivor and The Amazing Race being pulled from the 2020 schedule due to the pandemic fast-tracked that decision.

Either way…while I’d still like to see completely new formats on the network, at least JMC began on Ten compared to some of the others (including Survivor & Amazing Race) which started out on other networks years ago.

Agreed. There’s a time and place on TV for programs predominately featuring children, but it definitely isn’t at 7.30pm on a Sunday night!

You do realise you were once a kid? (no offence intended)

When should those shows be aired then?
It surely wouldn’t be an appropriate time to air MAFS or anything of that sort.
