A huge return to TV for Hey Hey with a huge 1.22 million viewers for its 50th anniversary special. However, The Block easily winning all key demos, suggests the bulk of the audience was also over 50!

Seven won all markets but Nine won all key demos. Seven was second in 25-54 with 10 second in 16-39.

Against the competition, The Block held up well, with the latest reveal episode over 900k, though that was its lowest in six weeks.

Meanwhile, 10 saw Celebrity MasterChef launch to a respectable +600k with a second place in key demos.

Seven also had success with the final of Manhunt beating out 60 Minute’s special investigation while 10 saw CSI Vegas make the top 20, up 100k on FBI’s usual audience.

Low numbers for The Sunday Project with the start of DST while 10 News at 6pm made the top 20.

Hmm great ratings for Hey Hey but hopefully that is not a signal for Daryl to demand a reboot. The one off show as a retrospective/nostalgia hit/path down memory lane is fine but a full series will never get figures as high as this.

I’m sure we will see Nine commission a reunion of Kerri-Anne or Midday with Ray Martin very soon :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Great numbers for the one off special hey Hey We’re 50. I looked on social media and noticed that most of them were positive.

Checking the demo numbers 74% of the audience was at least as old as the show

Great numbers for hey hey. BRING IT BACK!!

Fairly low share for 10 Bold last night, Star Trek Discovery must’ve bombed in its 9:30 timeslot rating under 86k.

Great numbers for Hey Hey.

The numbers for Celebrity Masterchef did okay against the tough competition.

Celebrity MasterChef certainly did OK, but the debut of CSI: Vegas attracted low figures.

Fires on the ABC also took a hit.

Masterchef launch did OK against strong compeition. It will be interesting to see how it goes tonight up against the usual type of competition.

Would that be considered a weak launch for The Real Housewives of Melbourne? I know it generally picks up a bigger overall audience across the week from repeats and will likely do well on streaming but the number still seems low. Amongst my friends there were a lot of us watching although we probably sit within it’s core demographic and a couple did watch it on Binge.

There might be some Red Faces at Nine after seeing those figures. They never should have passed on the 50th year Hey Hey special.

Edit: Looking at the key demos, The Block smashed Hey Hey so maybe they made the right call after all.

Still a mistake I think. May not have done well against The Block but could’ve done really well with different competition.

Wow! Wasn’t expecting that, though I did expect big numbers. Bring it back. Yes, they’re old and some work return but you could introduce some youngish, fresh and new faces to carry the flag!

Weekend Breakfast just doesn’t offer the same value as its Weekday version.

The former should only be allowed if KAK and Peter Costello are willing to bust out the moves again!

A one-off 50th anniversary special is one thing. I doubt though that Hey Hey (or a similar type of program) would work now for a whole range of reasons - namely it won’t be the ‘focal’ point of an evening’s viewing like Hey Hey was due to the wide range of streaming options which now exist.

The 1.2million+ metro viewers who tuned into “Hey Hey It’s 50 Years” last night should be ashamed of themselves.

Fortunately, it seems that program skewed old as The Block & Celebrity MasterChef performed better in the younger demographics.

Ashamed of themselves, what kind of analysis is that? It’s nostalgic for many people, as evidenced by the ratings. Can’t imagine anyone felt that by watching it, a little disappointed maybe.

It worked as a one off special and had the curiosity factor I’m sure the network was hoping for, if 7 were to pursue a reboot then shame on them.

If that is the case then shouldn’t those watching The Block or Celeb Masterchef be ashamed of themselves too?

Yes Hey Hey did very well (unexpectedly) and its past is patchy at best but for an one-off reunion special it wasn’t half as bad as some of the stuff it aired during the day. Clearly some people watched it for the best things and it rated accordingly.

Having said that, it shouldn’t be a sign for them to reboot it. If Daryl demands it then they need to get rid of him. Seven have been more than generous with him, he should retire this show out with dignity.
