He’s also the Shadow Assistant Minister for Youth. Disgusting if these allegations are true.

If Speakman has any balls he’d expel him from the role and the caucus. It’s really a case of wait and see.

Shouldn’t be. It’s farewell and that’s it.

He’s pulled the plug before Speakman even said anything.

He’s now resigned from the party

Not sure about the timing on this - Speakman issued a statement this afternoon saying that he requested Amon’s resignation after being told of the charges, whether Amon was going to do that or not without the Party mentioning it we probably won’t know.

He’s also resigned from his seat - similar accusations (and charges) were leveled against Gareth Ward during the last term and he only resigned from the party and moved to the crossbench (then despite it being unresolved, was able to get re-elected!).

SA Liberal Party state director Alex May has stepped down from her position in another sign of upheaval for the embattled Opposition.

May was appointed to the role in June 2022 in the wake of the Liberal Party’s state and federal election defeats, replacing Sascha Meldrum who had been state director since 2015.

Advertising has very much started for the upcoming Queensland State Election set to be held in October - a Liberal National Party (LNP) ad was seen on Seven Queensland (Regional) stations tonight during their respective local 6pm bulletins. It is also expected to air at some point in Brisbane.

In my opinion the LNP have the Queensland election in the bag. Youth crime is one of the big tickets issues. Although not unique to Queensland it is a big and growing problem. Some people say the statistics don’t back it up but I’ve lived in Brisbane for 35 years and there is definitely a major uptick in crime, mainly break and enter and car theft, but also knife crime.

The other big issues are health, infrastructure and the Olympics. Labor have mishandled the Olympics in a huge way. Regional Queensland is up in arms about the Bruce Highway and youth crime.

Prepare for a Labor bloodbath.

No doubt Liberals have got Queensland 2024 in the bag - question will be do they have any solutions or alternatives?

That’s the thing. When they have to actually deliver on fixing these issues, that’s when the rubber hits the road.

I just hope they don’t implode quickly like Campbell Newman did. They need to not rush so much at first, and take a more gradual approach to things

I do think they’ll sort the Olympics though. They’ll do a quick review, dump QSAC, engage the private sector, then quickly hand over to the independent body. I also think there’s a chance they dump the Brisbane Live inner city arena in favour of a new swimming venue near a new stadium at Victoria Park or North Shore Hamilton.

That has been the issue with the liberals in many states - all they seem to do is yell no without offering any alternative solutions or ideas.

They will need to do something about the Olympics ASAP though, especially if they want federal funding. The longer they leave it, the harder it will be to get things finished in time.

I Hope not. Boondall is out of date and horrid to get out of. having brisbane live in the CBD would alleviate so many issues

Given there are talks about a privately funded option floating around, no doubt the LNP will do whatever is the easiest.

I agree, Brisbane Live in the CBD would be fantastic. But it’s very expensive to build there. Pragmatism might mean a similar arena is build at a much reduced cost at either Victoria Park (still very near CBD) or North Shore Hamilton. If Labor had pulled their finger out and got moving on it a couple of years ago it would have come in cheaper. They’ve been talking about it even before the Olympics was granted.

Similarly they didn’t prosecute the case for the Gabba rebuild properly either. They didn’t even investigate any private sector participation when the rebuild quote came in higher than their initial back of napkin estimate.

its already been moved - they are no longer building ion top of the tracks at roma st but instead at the maitence yeard

Yes that’s helped. But the site over the rail yards is still awkward and will be more expensive than say North Shore, which is nice and flat, and unrestricted.

If it’s combined with a new stadium build on the same site it will get even cheaper.

DC will probably be a weak Liberal leader and will be booted out in a term if he doesn’t deliver, if they put up someone like Dick in opposition.

Crime is an issue nation wide, certainly in the larger population centres. As a shift worker, I have been late out in recent weeks and driving home through metro and suburban areas at 2am, it’s quite alarming how many youths I see on bikes and just hanging around. The keys for my car which would be attractive to some are kept hidden in my house. We are designing a custom build house at the moment, we have adjusted the plans purely for security reasons, will make it very hard for someone to access it.

You confront these youths they will bash you. A bloke around the corner from me was bashed to death last year while he stumbled across someone looking in cars.

UPDATE: It aired on BTQ-7 in Brisbane and Gold Coast areas tonight during Home and Away. Regional Seven (STQ) stations got it again, but this time it’s now on heavy rotation.

In fact, almost every time so far an ad break I’ve seen has gone to air in the regional areas, an ad for the LNP shows up, mostly notably during tonight’s airings of Home and Away and The 1% Club UK.

the problem the conservatives have in Queensland is that there is no upper house to wind back bad legislation, so they come into power and go bat s**t crazy, pass the laws they have been dreaming about (or been paid for) , the Queensland public (who are honestly pretty left wing - look how long the ALP has held government vs the conservatives) don’t like it and get rid of the conservatives.

an upper house would force them to moderate bad laws - i fully believe had we had one for Newman he would have been a 2 term (minimum) premier.
