Stadia

This isn’t news - the original capsule (that was buried in 1988 when the SFS opened) was recovered during construction and they indicated then that a new one would be located somewhere within the new stadium.

The location has also been the Roosters home ground since 1911

Don’t give a shit what the Roosters did back then, do now or in the future.

If it is taxpayer funded, it’s not their stadium to claim as their own and to dig up. It’s our fucking stadium, we paid for it. Fuck you Nick, and fuck the Roosters.

Do you speak on behalf of the taxpayers?

You know the answer to this.

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Any opportunity to bad mouth the Roosters i will take the opportunity to do so.

Spent the last 3 days at Sydney Motorsport Park for the V8s and boy some work needs to be done.

The grandstand needs to be knocked down and rebuilt. I nearly fell over trying to get out the back to the toilets as there is a rather large drop between the back of the grandstand and the cement floor leading to the stairs.

The toilets are too far from the grandstand too - there is space underneath for temporary ones, but long term they need new toilets.

If you’re in a wheelchair, need a mobility scooter or like me, have mobility issues, you’re screwed - only one ramp and it’s at the other end.

Getting from one side to the other - to the paddock and car parks also needs to be fixed - there is only one way to get across and it’s via a tunnel under the road.

It’s not a high priority, but it’d be nice to upgrade those areas.

Just name Vic Park, get the contracts and be done with it.

Surely that has to be the outcome. Or Albion Park or Doomben as outside chances. I just can’t see it being the Gabba.

Can’t be the gabba. Security alone would rule it out. too many tall buildings overlooking the stadium for snipers, and 2 major roads running underneath. they also can’t go much bigger there.

And Albion Park is prone to flooding as we’ve seen in the past, plus the original plan was to build an indoor arena inside the facility for paralympic sports post games and perhaps used for a sport like Volleyball during.

Channel 9 is reporting that the 100 day review will recommend Vic Park for the 2032 Stadium

This absolutely has to happen now.

Two separate reviews have recommended the same thing.

Update: Video report

Interesting take out from this report is that it’s possible (likely, even) that the swimming won’t be in a drop in pool at the Brisbane Arena, as Swimming Australia have been briefed it could be “another location”. I would think it will either be a new swimming facility at Victoria Park, OR an upgraded Gold Coast Aquatic Centre. The Brisbane Arena would still be built, but more likely at the old Go Print site at Woolloongabba rather than Roma Street. This approach would save money I would think. But regardless, a new stadium at Victoria Park looks all but certain, with Albion Park still an outside chance. It also looks like the Olympic Village might be moved to Bowen Hills instead of Hamilton to be closer to Victoria Park (and Albion Park). Makes sense to build the apartment blocks there as they are probably a bit more marketable there post the Olympics.

Can’t see them hosting the swimming on the Goldie. its the jewel in the crown of Olympic sports and not having it at the host city (and yes i know its an SEQ games, but its being marketed as Brisbane 2032) would be an embrassment

I agree, and I would prefer Brisbane, so hopefully it remains so. But my gut feel is it’s a 50/50 call at the moment.

Despite the impasse, the Cats have made it clear that they support the trust’s objective to host concerts and other big events. According to sources from both the trust and the club, speaking anonymously about confidential discussions, the Cats were prepared to temporarily relocate last year when the prospect of grunge legends Pearl Jam playing at the stadium was raised.

Pearl Jam’s management eventually shelved that idea to play only capital cities after the band became sick in Europe.

However, the sources explained the Cats felt it was not sustainable to regularly relocate for such events until they had an alternative training base, which could also host AFLW matches. The Pearl Jam situation also highlighted the uncertainty faced by the trust when chasing big events.

Geelong council’s executive director placemaking Tennille Bradley said she were willing to support the Cats’ quest for alternative options.

Do the Cats not have alternate training facilities?

I don’t go to many stadiums, BCG, Brighton Homes, People’s First, MCG, SCG… but these little drink holders they have at Geelong seem a great idea.

When you look around the crowd at the footy (and the cricket) everyone seems to have a beverage of some sort.

Great idea. Albeit favoring right-handers.
