I disagree - it is a great legacy for athletics to still have a track and field track in the stadium.
I reckon Brisbane should put in a bid to host the 2031 World Athletics Championships, as a dress rehearsal for the Olympics in the following year.

That’s irrespective. For the main tenant, the football club, it is an onerous and destructive difficulty, For only a few days a year’s competition for the Diamond league.
Question would be if the stadium is ready or not.
Without Olympics or athletics they wouldn’t have a stadium in the first place
If the new Victoria Park stadium is not ready by 2031, they can host the champs at QEII Stadium.
The amount of work needed would be a massive waste of money.
That’s fine. But there’s no reason for it to still be how it is.
Firstly, no-one calls them “United”: that’s a moniker that pretty much only refers to the red half of Manchester. They are West Ham.
Second, remember that West Ham also only lease the stadium, and part of the criteria in the bidding process was the athletics track had to remain. It really isn’t as easy as West Ham just buying out UK Athletics, plus there is the consideration of where they would hold elite athletics events in the UK, because there isn’t any other suitable facilities.

Firstly, I don’t care. I support West Ham and call them what I want. Secondly, there’s talk Kretinsky is interested in buying the stadium. Not our problem where athletics goes. It’s a pit not suitable for football as it stands, and there is no world in which that stadium still exists for a week of athletics a year without football.

It’s a pit not suitable for football because that’s not what it was built for. The stadium authority also rejected a bid from Tottenham during their first tender process specifically because they wanted to knock the thing down and build a football stadium.
Now, if Kretinsky buys the stadium, that would change things. It would be contingent on the conditions of the deal though, and there is potential value in having a secondary tenant during the off season.
Context is very obvious here I’d say but alas let’s move on.
The PLA (who operate the stadium) are losing millions every month - the value is listed as basically 0. The day will come when the mounting cost to the taxpayer - already over 1.5b pounds last I saw - will be too much and a sale will have to be explored. West Ham won’t want to continue losing money - it’s apparently a massively costly process to convert between football and athletics (massive design flaw) - so the eviction would be quick, even if a transition period existed in the deal.

They were only just sold for $10 billion, and that was a controlling stake, not 100%.
