I heard through the grape vine that SCM are working on centralising programming and are planning to cut a heap of staff in the coming months. No idea how much substance there is to this, but it’s interesting if 100% true

They pretty much centralise their programming now. Market variations mainly come out of Sydney. The only thing might be bringing in the ex Prime stations to centralisation but in saying that Canberra is still advertising full time positions.

No idea but it might be radio related

Yeah I didnt think of that

Maybe they are scrapping locally presented radio shows between 9am and 3pm?

There is not much you can centralise in Television. Besides news (Sydney) and sport (Melbourne) most shows are usually outsourced from different production companies around the country.

Could go down the Nova route and have one day announcer and voice track the metro stations.

I believe it was radio my source was referring to

When most stations are networked or remotely voicetracked outside of breakfast or a workday shift, what is there left to centralise?

The Breakfast Teams?

It’s worked so well for ARN…

They also could be consolidating other departments… sales / accounts / HR etc between television, radio and streaming.

I reckon SWM regional brekkie shows will get the axe, running statewide metro FM shows to the regionals.

Either that, or maybe it’s Triple M regional’s turn to be networked?

Regardless, it’s not good news. Yet again SRN will have a point of difference.

There is normally only one local doing 9/3 currently on the Hit - in Perth on Mix only the one presenter on till 3pm

SCA will be dumb enough to try AI on regional stations. That’s my take.

With SCM having to sell 17 commercial radio licences as part of the merger with 7 West Media that’s 17 markets which could actually see more local content & would give SCM a real run for its money.

Exactly for example Hit99.5 Mildura is nothing more than a relay station.

Which stations do they have to sell?

Pretty much every station in Regional WA, as well as Mildura, Roma & Mt Isa.
