The Game returns bigger for 2026 with new NRL tipping

Seven West Media’s free tipping platform, The Game, is back for 2026, building on its biggest year yet and expanding its footprint across Australian sport.

Since launching in 2021, The Game has become a ritual of the AFL season in Australia, driving banter, bragging rights and consistent weekly engagement.

In 2026, The Game will expand its AFL offering and introduce NRL tipping for the first time, creating a powerful new opportunity for brands to connect with Australian sports fans across both codes.

Now reaching over 100,000 unique users and delivering 30% year-on-year growth outside Western Australia, The Game has evolved into a powerful weekly touchpoint within Seven West Media’s digital ecosystem.

The Game’s expansion provides sports fans with multiple opportunities for engagement throughout the year, and a premium commercial environment for advertisers across AFL, Cricket and now NRL.

Seven West Media WA Chief Executive Officer, Maryna Fewster, said: “The Game is one of our most important digital growth products, driving strong audience expansion and deeper engagement across our digital network.

“The expansion into NRL in 2026 strengthens the platform’s national footprint, broadens its commercial appeal and underscores the strategic importance of The Game within our broader growth agenda.”

Registrations are now open for the 2026 AFL season at thegame.com.au

Are they using Motorhead’s The Game to promote it?

Go End of Fashion’s one instead. Perth band, more appropriate for SWM

So according to Sharp it sounds like quiet veteran and a Tim Worner lieutenant who helped originally take Seven to No. 1, Angus Ross, is the only current Seven executive “secure” and a smokey for SC CEO. If she’s to be believed.

It’ll be John Kelly or the newly appointed Cath O’Connor.

Yesterday there was this.

According to insiders, (Jeff) Howard was just about the only person at the company who didn’t see the coup coming, and while he was still coming to terms with his swift exit everyone else was already forging fragile alliances as they nervously waited to see who would be next.

By Friday, staff were informed Seven’s former “chief people officer” Lucinda Gemmell and SCA former chief legal officer Sarah Tinsley were next to be culled.

Meanwhile, SCA’s existing “chief people officer”, Rebecca Ackland, would take on the role for the combined organisation while former Seven general counsel Emma McDonald would be chief legal officer.

Word is the executive bloodletting is far from over, with sources suggesting Seven’s digital boss and one-time teen glossy magazine editor Gereurd Roberts is striking a particularly lonely figure having forged strong ties with the now departed Howard and Gemmell.

I’m also trying work out the logistics of this company.

Are the HQ for this media group now based in South Melbourne? Or is split between both Sydney and Melbourne?

SCA HQ has long been centred on Sydney for the most part. All the big dogs are in World Square, especially once Dave Cameron left.

Seven and UN Women Australia unite to demand justice for women and girls

Six years of partnership. One shared mission. This International Women’s Day (IWD), Seven Network and UN Women Australia are calling on Australians to help “Balance the Scales” – the theme of IWD 2026 and a rallying cry for equal justice for all women and girls.

This year marks the sixth consecutive year Seven has worked with UN Women Australia as the official Australian broadcast partner for IWD. To mark the day, Seven presenters are hosting IWD events around the country, including Karina Carvalho in Melbourne, Angela Tsun in Perth and Katrina Blowers in Brisbane.

Despite generations of progress, justice remains out of reach for too many women. One in three women worldwide will experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime, but most will never seek formal help or see a legal outcome. In Australia, conviction rates for sexual assault cases remain low. “Balance the Scales” is a call to change that by transforming legal systems, dismantling discriminatory barriers, and making equal justice a reality rather than an aspiration.

The theme aligns with the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, which this year focuses on ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls.

Seven’s General Manager, Performance Transformation, Sarah Chau, said: “Justice for women and girls isn’t a niche issue, it’s a big and important one. ‘Balance the Scales’ is a theme that challenges all of us, including Seven, to examine honestly what equal justice actually looks like and what it takes to get there.

“Our partnership with UN Women Australia has never been more relevant. Through our platforms and our people, we have a real opportunity to help shift the conversation.

“At Seven, we’ve been on a journey to build a workplace where women are genuinely equal – in opportunity, in voice and in outcome. We have made real progress, but progress is not the finish line. This IWD, we are proud to work with UN Women Australia in calling for the systemic change that women and girls in this country, and around the world, deserve,” she said.

7NEWS’ Karina Carvalho said: “I’m excited to be hosting the IWD event in Melbourne where we will hear from some formidable women, from diverse backgrounds, on the successes and challenges that have shaped their lives. I am looking forward to learning a lot from their experience and hope the audience will too.”

UN Women Australia Chief Executive Officer, Simone Clarke, said: “Balance the Scales is a powerful reminder that equality doesn’t happen by chance. Every organisation, community and individual has a role to play in ensuring women and girls can access justice on equal terms. This International Women’s Day, alongside Seven, we’re amplifying a message that belongs to everyone – that true equality demands action from all of us.”

An example this morning, when Fox’s Fifi, Fev and Nick arranged for a surprise chat between Amanda “Mad Mando” Lee (head of Hit Network metro content, and Home and Away superfan) and Stephen Peacocke to promote the soap’s WA week. Amanda was quite nervous and had to rely on a sheet of questions provided by the show producers.
