Southern Cross Austereo (Regional)

The key points from that being:
Allan and Carly don’t broadcast from Bunbury (they’re in Perth).
The fire was on the outside of the building.
The cause of the fire hasn’t be confirmed.
Power was still cut to the building this morning.

I’m more keen to hear what was on Triple M Southwest this morning, which does broadcast from that building. Nothing on their socials or podcast yet from what I can see.

I’m confused, because the local breakfast show in Perth (on Mix94.5) is Pete & Kymba.

From what I’ve seen online, Allan & Carly have visited local businesses in Southwest WA, and have had outside broadcasts. Does SCA have a seperate studio in the Perth building for the regional hosts? Any reliable info and further details is appreciated regarding this whole thing. Many thanks.

Yes - Hit regional WA breakfast and Triple M remote WA breakfast both come from Perth.

Until about 2019, all the networked shows for SCA WA came from Bunbury.

In Perth, each of Mix and 92.9 originally had 2 studios each, side by side, on separate floors.

When SCA took over the Redwave stations (Geraldton, Karratha, Hedland, Broome & Remote WA) they moved some regional functions to Perth as Redwave had been based in Perth in the SWM building and Mix and 92.9 each gave one of their studios to their corresponding regional brands. At this point the Hit breakfast show was split between Perth and Bunbury, but has since moved to being in Perth full time. The Triple M Remote & Carnarvon breakfast show has moved to Perth much more recently - maybe when Robbie took over.

Over this time SCA have downsized their operations in Bunbury such that they now only take up half the top floor of that building instead of the full floor they originally had.

If you note it that clip they refer to accessing hard drives (servers) in Bunbury. This would be a throwback to when everything came out of Bunbury, and also reflect the few functions that are still based in Bunbury.

I only caught 10 minutes of 963am Triple M breakfast. There was Bunbury weather and commercials. I’m not sure if it was the normal DJ, or the statewide DJ with local ads dropped in.

Can’t see their 850mhz STLs still so all content coming from Perth / East Coast at a guess.

No full show on LiSTNR, they don’t post full shows of Michael for Breakfast, so we’ll never know how theirs played out. Anyways, at least we have the Hit version. Mind you they didn’t post the full show for Allan & Carly up on LiSTNR either, instead posting 2 segment audio clips.

SCA never posts full shows for these 2 breakfast shows, and this is certainly not new. Scroll down and you’ll see that it’s just segment recaps, many running at 23-28 mins long.

Got it, thanks very much! :sunglasses:

Terrible decision to move Hit breakfast from Bunbury in regional WA to Perth. Announcers have zero connection to the local community they serve.

Triple M breakfast in the Wheatbelt now comes out of Perth while Hedland comes out of Bunbury.

Is that Northam as well? (ie 6AM Northam and 6MD Merredin)?

Yeah that’s right. All 4 Wheatbelt markets take the remote feed for now. They’ve lost a couple of announcers from there, Carzo and Troy in the last few months.

Thanks! Are the other two 6NA and 6WB?

Yes.

Listening to the stream this morning it’s Robbie with the statewide breakfast show. Maybe someone local can confirm that’s what’s going to air?

Just before 6:30am AWST, Robbie was interviewing Sam Armytage and on the Southwest stream the interview was suddenly cut off and King of Wishful Thinking started playing (which had already been played after 6am). A couple of songs later Michael comes on saything he’s broadcasting from home and they therefore don’t have phones at the moment.

They tried something similar in the late 90’s/early 2000’s when 6AM, 6MD, 6NA and 6WB all had their breakfast shows axed in favour of one show from Bunbury called the Big Bush Breakfast. Didn’t last long.

I’m not surprised they’ve had to look at networking earlier than other areas. Those regional markets in WA are really small populations compared to most others in Australia.

Hearing rumours that Hit WA’s breakfast show is set to be axed, replaced by Mix 94.5’s Pete and Kymba going statewide.

Also WA Triple M breakfast shows will be just a north and south version.

Wonder what the split will be?

North be Geraldton up to Broome plus Remote 6SAT licence?

And South is everywhere south and east of Perth excluding 6SAT towns?

Makes Hit WA like SAFM Mt Gambier which takes the Adelaide breakfast show.
