Songs lost to radio

Australia was one of the few countries that gave it airplay…

A staple on ZMFM in Christchurch…

I’ve never heard that song before in my life
Judging by the hair it has to be mid-80s

Yeah back then NZ radio played much more british stuff than Australia.

Baby Baby - Amy Grant. You don’t hear that song on Australian Radio anymore.

The Fixx don’t get anywhere near the airplay they deserve. Some may dismiss them as a poor persons’ Duran Duran; I say you’d be hard pressed to find a more polished new wave outfit.

Interestingly I haven’t heard these 90s songs in years but had quite a lot of air time during the FM93 era.

Marie Wilson - Next Time

Merril Brainbridge - Mouth

Not Australian but haven’t heard this on the radio in 30 years! Taylor Dayne - Love Will Lead You Back

Two others I haven’t heard is awhile are
Inner Circle - Sweat (A La La La La Long)
Ugly Kid Joe - Cat’s in the Cradle

One song I’m happy to no longer hear is Tony Lee-Scott - Tastes So Sweet, was StarFM Wagga’s dead-air filler…

I could make a large list. :frowning:

Good post!

I agree re Marie Wilson’s “Next Time”.
That one deserves more airplay still.

Merril Bainbridge was good too… Like Marie Wilson, a bit of a one hit wonder.
Merril’s follow up hit “Under The Water” was a good listen too.

Oh yeah Next Time / Marie Wilson is definitely a lost gem! Haven’t heard that for a LONG time. Good song.

I heard that track on River 94.9 on a 'Wayback Wednesday ’ about a month ago

Indeed… good post… I had completely Forgotten about Marie Wilson’s ‘Next Time’…

From a similar time and of a similar ilk, I also remember this:

Indeed…

Similarly…

I heard Wait / Gyan a month or two ago on Breeze or River (can’t remember which), hadn’t heard it in years but sounded GREAT on the radio after so long.

That Gyan song is a great one too!

It’s a fair bit older than Marie Wilsons song.
“Wait” charted in 1989, “Next Time” in 1998.

Continuing the theme of forgotten Aussie female singers, this is a long forgotten cover of the Godley and Creme song, “Cry”, released in 1992…

Oh yes… a great contender for the ‘forgotten’ category… so big at the time now barely remembered (even by people myself who even bought the CD single at the time).

And as for another Lisa… (seems I’m stuck in 1989)…

Yeah - Pretty sure MMM was CHR at the time… I also remember cruising around the Gold Coast and hearing it on KROQ…

Hmmm, Stereo 10 just played this… hadn’t heard it in almost 30 years…

I can’t believe this doesn’t get airplay, whilst Boh-Rap gets flogged.

Ultravox - Dancing with tears in my eyes - right now on Stereo 10…

first time I’ve ever heard this on Australian radio…

Wasn’t even a huge hit in New Zealand apart from in Christchurch where ZM FM thrashed it!!! It was #1 on their hot 9 at 9 for 3 weeks!

Great song. Loving Stereo 10, wish TAB would keep it on all year.
