I don’t care about the US. An Australian news channel should be making content targetting viewers in Australia, not hyper-Trumpists overseas. It’s not like News Corp doesn’t have a direct line to that crowd over there, anyway.
It’s a crap news channel so we can’t expect anything better.
I’d say that’s a large part of revenue for them though, unfortunatly.
shut down the TV channel and just run a YouTube channel and they can run 24/7 MAGA.
old man rant over
Making those viral clips helps fund the dayside news operation through digital revenue. At least the bulk of it is at 10pm on a Friday
Like who cares about any of the Trumps except his cult followers. By the way love your “old man” raves. I’m sure I’m a much older “old man raver”!
You’re not making much on a youtube video with 2.5mil views. There’s a reason Piers Morgans YouTube show won’t be around much longer.
The problem is it doesn’t matter about money. The higher-ups use Sky News Australia to spout their crap through another source. Everyone in the US knows Fox News is Trump right, so anyone who isn’t already a Trumpy isn’t going to watch their content, but a foreign network (most have heard of Sky News as a big brand, they don’t know it isn’t part of the UK division) talking about a topic might get them to watch it. It also gives stuff credibility by being not “Fox News”.
I’m not sure why there so obsessed with it these days. seriously how many people would be watching it? Why not make an appearance on Sunrise or the Today show? lol…
Because they have credibility and are only for an Australian audience.
On a single video perhaps not, but considering the volume they upload, SocialBlade estimates they could be making more than $5m a year off YouTube alone. Videos like this help put the channel in front of new users.
It also diversifies their revenue streams, along with advertising on the channel, d2c through subscriptions etc.
The revenue to be made from an Australian linear channel is too small.
YouTube opens up massive revenue and reach. And when you’re talking youtube it becomes the US - with 350 million people
It’s their business model. and if you were the CEO and your job was to grow revenue 15% every year you would be doing the same.
It’s fine if costs are extremely low or you’re just reposting existing content but things like Piers are unsustainable with staff costs and his bloated contract.
Try more like $20 million.
