Some caps from the 6am show so far:

Nice to see they’re using the newsroom set and not the glass box. I love the orange lighting in there. Shame the music is the same as every other hour (yawn). The titles seem a rip off of BBC Breakfast, but less amateurish (and the diamonds seem really dated).

Due to the wipe effect, you can capture the endcap sans ticker on it.

Speaking of the ticker, it has subtly gone down a few pixels this morning. Quite a nice change.

And graphics are warm and orange - not-so-subtle nod to sunrise (pun not intended).

Orange everywhere.

Pregame over, now onto the “main event”. Quite a lift in background…

…and headline transitions, just using the last 2 seconds of the intro with the headline replacing “Mornings”.

(Note the irony of the same item crossing the ticker!)

And settling on the most-of-the-time look.

There is your misleading claim only 16 minutes in.

Ah, someone steeping in the frame… the horror of a live news set near a newsroom…

(I think the ‘Fridge’ studio is quite close to the newsroom given the same wooden decor behind Gareth’s presenting area?)

And the edge of the set and newsroom in the background

Seriously though, the sound needs more care - shoe clog sounds are quite audible when the minister enters or exits the studio!

Like the graphics so far - warm and welcoming, I think better than the BBC’s they’re trying to imitate. Thought the blue text would contrast better in a darker shade. Agree with @NuStraya on theme tune - a softer tune loosely based on the main mneumonic would be nice

Pushbacks need more consideration re flogging the exclusive interviews. Not sure why they insisted holding them to later too when watching online is possible.

The two hosts need more time to gel with each other - Frost feels slightly more stilted sometimes.

Breaking news back from break but wiping to a brief black screen, therefore revealing whatever that line is.

No, they’re in completely different buildings, in different parts of London :joy: Gareth is in Sky Central at Osterley. ‘Fridge’ are in Westminster. The two newsrooms do look similar so I can see why you’d think they were in the same building.

It’s interesting that Sophy and Wilf are chatting about each story after a report or a live - feels very American, very CNN. The full screen headlines feel very American too (and a bit over the top IMO). I don’t much like the backdrop. There’s no depth to it - they’re just sat in front of a huge photograph of London. Needs more work, I think. I was much more impressed with the hour before it, tbh.

I didn’t mind it to be honest - thought it was more lively than the other options we have available here in the UK. Sophy does bring a good energy to Breakfast TV.

Don’t think I’ve seen that part of the Osterley set before - I thought Gareth travelled from Westminster to Osterley when he presented 10am in the ‘glass box’ which I thought was pretty stupid.

It’s in the main newsroom of Sky News, and is mainly used for overnights and business.

Quick note: From today, the international feed shows the UK clock.

No one bothers anymore with that cover-up.

It’s been fixed now

Sky Italia seems to have ported the ‘glass box’ from the UK with their new Milan campus. It’s first outing was for their online live commentary of the PM’s New Year’s speech last week:

Feels like they’re trying to reinvent the wheel to me. But hey! What do I know…

Goodbye tonight to Sky News at Ten - it was made by the hard work of correspondents & crews in the UK & abroad, by producers, news editors, bosses, directors, engineers, floor managers, runners, make-up & more - it was the embodiment of team effort - thanks to everyone, loved it! pic.twitter.com/zkMRxTAEhh

And this was the very first edition of Sky News at Ten, on Monday 8 March 1999:

(Yep - Anna Botting presented it back then, too!)

They seem to have moved from the glass box to the Breakfast studio, right next to Yalda Hakim:

Not sure how much was changed - less straight news and more chat and talk panel? The paper review segment got retained too, just not a standalone prorgramme.

Gone from a record of the day to a talk show. No from me.

Designed to be able to be spliced up into clickable shareable engagement social clips online. Where the news audience is. Less focus on linear / sky made that change about a year ago I think

Also more segments to be used overnight, as it effectively is repeated most of the night except for the first 1/2 parts of each hour which provides headlines.

Tbf they did that anyway, and the 11pm hour had been more of an extended discussion for a while. All they’ve done is extended that to 10pm and rebranded the thing. I agree with @primetime_tv though. It’s a shame they don’t have one bulletin of record (ad-free, to boot) anymore.

More segments. I’m aware.
