ABC staff raised concerns with senior management about the recruitment of a man said to have been accused of inappropriate conduct with a young male staffer.
Two months after outgoing ABC boss David Anderson apologised to staff for the findings of a widespread culture review which identified recruitment processes at the national broadcaster as being flawed – and six months after Anderson acknowledged the broadcaster was failing to meet its own standards concerning sexual harassment – frustrated staff were last week still looking for answers concerning the historic appointment.
An ABC spokesman refused to be drawn on the allegations this week.
Alan Jones’s lawyer has told a Sydney court the veteran broadcaster will plead not guilty to a total of 34 charges relating to alleged indecent assault and sexual touching incidents spanning two decades.
The charges include 11 counts of aggravated indecent assault, 19 counts of assault with act of indecency, two counts of sexually touching another person without consent and two counts of common assault.
The offences relate to 10 complainants.
Facing Downing Centre Local Court, Mr Jones successfully had his bail varied with his lawyer telling the magistrate his client intended to fight the charges through a court trial.
He was excused from attending his next court appearance in March.

Jones did not appear in court on Tuesday and the matter was adjourned until September 18.

Prosecutors have replaced the most serious charges faced by veteran broadcaster Alan Jones with lesser offences and withdrawn several others.
11 counts of aggravated indecent assault have been dropped in what the magistrate described as a “reformation” of the case.
The 84-year-old is now facing a total of 27 charges relating to 9 complainants, the court heard.
Before Thursday’s hearing, Mr Jones was facing 44 offences relating to 11 complainants after an investigation into alleged historic indecent assaults and sexual touching incidents between 2001 and 2019.
Mr Jones has previously denied all allegations and his lawyer formally entered pleas of not guilty to the nine replacement charges that were filed this week.
