Looks like it might be close in Brisbane this week…

Sydney might fall Seven’s way too (at the very least they should take out the week at 6.30pm), unless the win on Wednesday was enough to account for shortcomings on Monday, Tuesday and the 6.30pm half of Thursday.

Lots of green this week largely due to Tuesday’s numbers being 90,000 higher than the previous week.

Very close in Sydney and Melbourne.

Is is possible (for next years number) that we could included 10 News First numbers?

Maybe not, for now.

Also if possible, the ABC News as it would be great to compare week on week figures for them all

After getting a boot from the Melbourne Cup, Seven News Melbourne dropped 25,000 from that week and Nine was also down 20,000. Brisbane bulletins also well down, Seven to its lowest number for this survey.

Hi everyone, sorry if this has been published somewhere, but I’m having trouble finding ratings numbers for the morning and afternoon news bulletins (Seven and Nine). Would anyone have some numbers? Thanks in advance :grinning:

Wow. What happened yesterday (Fri 23)in Brisbane? 9 was slaughtered by The Chase and 7News.

Lowest Nine Brisbane bulletin for the year.

With the 6:30 slot taken by Seven for 21 rating weeks, Seven News now has a clear proof of coming back as No. 1 this year in Brisbane.

While we’re waiting for TV Cynic’s analysis of the news ratings for the final week of the 2018 ratings season, here’s a self-celebratory tweet from one of the news directors:

My inevitable response!

If/when I manage to receive a reply, I’ll let you know.

Sydney storm coverage pushed up ratings in that city, but despite extensive resources being deployed to cover the Queensland bush fires, both bulletins lost viewers from last week.

That’s the end of the 40-week rating year with Seven scoring 40 to 0 nationally up from 37:4 in 2017 and 38:3 in 2016. The biggest market change was in Brisbane where Seven established a big lead in the 6pm segment of the bulletin.

An interesting year, in one market at least, that’s for sure.

Seven have big bragging rights, though there’s still the obvious Melbourne and Sydney exceptions. But what’s probably worse is Nine lost their lead in Brisbane and Adelaide/Perth (especially) continue to be a lost cause.

Also, Melbourne and Sydney (in the declining environment) are relatively close between Seven and Nine compared to say a handful of years ago,

So, when everything’s been said and done…

*Seven News won all 40 weeks on a five city basis and absolutely smashed it in Adelaide & Perth by not losing a single ratings week in either of those Seven News loyalist markets.
*The big improver for Seven was Brisbane, managing to win a whopping 31 ratings weeks at 6pm during the 2018 ratings year, compared to only 3 in 2017.
*Seven performed slightly better in Sydney & Melbourne compared to 2017, but still not as good as they did in 2016 when they won five weeks in Melbourne and seven in Sydney. Overall, Nine remains the leader in both of Australia’s two largest media markets - most likely due to the Overton/Hitchener factor.

With this year’s major changes to sporting rights and other factors (like there not being an Olympics or Commonwealth Games to help boost Seven’s numbers), 2019 could very well be an interesting year for TV news ratings in Australia’s five biggest capital cities!

Thanks for all your work bringing us these stats each week TV.Cynic

it would be nice to see the ABC & 10 News figures added next year if not too much extra effort is required.

Adelaide news numbers influenced by two days of test cricket with Seven recording its highest result for the year and Nine its lowest. Elsewhere the effect, in any, was minimal.

I understand the interest but Ten’s news ratings don’t always make to daily top 20 so OzTAM rules wouldn’t let me post the weekly number unfortunately.
