Seven number one in total people and all demographics

The official TV ratings survey for 2016 finished last night and it showed that for the tenth consecutive year Seven was the most popular TV Network in Australia.

Seven was not only the most watched network for total viewers it also claimed the number one spot for the three key demographic groups 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54. The results are tabulated below.

The numbers also include the two weeks of the Rio Olympics in August. Advertisers looking to future ratings performance often are interested to exclude these from the yearly tally so a separate table is presented below excluding that period.

The official ratings measure audiences watching Free-to Air television in prime time (6-12pm) in the five largest metropolitan areas from Week 7 (7 February) until last night excluding two weeks at Easter. It is based on a panel of viewers in each area.

It not only includes overnight viewing but takes into account viewing of programs within one week of their broadcast. While we are still waiting for these consolidated numbers from last week (week 48) they will not change the outcome.

See Ratings Year 2016 to discuss these ratings numbers in the Media Spy forums.
