Angie’s absence today more or less confirms what I suspected in that she will continue doing weather three days a week in addition to co-anchoring on weekends.
So judging by the last week, Seven has had/will have 5 different on-air combinations in Sydney:
Sunday to Tuesday
Mark Ferguson & Angela Cox, Mel McLaughlin and Angie Asimus
Wednesday
Mark Ferguson & Angela Cox, Mel McLaughlin and Grace Fitzgibbon
Thursday
Mark Ferguson & Angela Cox, Mel McLaughlin and Amber Laidler
Friday
Michael Usher & Angie Asimus, Matt Carmichael and Amber Laidler
Saturday
Michael Usher & Angie Asimus, Matt Carmichael and Grace Fitzgibbon
Probably not a big deal now but I wonder if it will have any effect long-term.
Perhaps we just assume either Mike or Gertie do daytime in Adelaide, for the time being? Seems to be one of them as the norm, and anybody else is irregular.
Of course comes from a straight news presenting background, starting with the ING Direct Finance Report on Ten News At Five (networked from Sydney) in 2010 when Jacqueline Maddock was absent. To the revamp of Ten News At Five: Weekend Edition alongside Natarsha Belling (and Rob Canning and Magdalena Roze) at the end of 2011 after Ten’s final AFL telecast/GF. Then the revamped Late News the next year when Hamish Macdonald was away. To the revamped Ten Eyewitness News, hosting the Early and Morning News later in 2013 into 2014, would be filled-in by Hermione Kitson. He also appeared on Studio 10 among other programs, such as that crime show with Sandra Sully, then left Ten after nearly a decade, going to the US. Before returning to Australia and joining Seven’s Sunday Night around 2016. Previously also at Ten Adelaide before 2009, did he work at ATV too? And started at the Herald Sun in Melbourne in the 2000s, the city he grew up in.
At the end of the bulletin he said “I’ll see you tomorrow” so hopefully a sign of things to come. It’s about time. Matt was a great presenter at 10, good to see him on news bulletins again. He’s a good asset to 7.
As mentioned in the 10 News First thread, Erin Edwards is now set to become the news director for Brisbane, replacing Michael Coombes, who was in the role for about 18 months before leaving.
