Seven News Presenters and Reporters (2015-Sept 2020)

Nor are Ferguson or Usher. She’s certainly not the answer to 7 making ground up on 9 but neither are the other two or Melissa Doyle. Her newsreading style is enough to put an insomniac to sleep.

Do you mind clarifying it a bit more please  ?

So if the right person to lead Seven News Sydney is not Mark Ferguson, Michael Usher, Melissa Doyle or Ann Sanders…then exactly who is?

Does Seven need to throw the chequebook (even though some of these presenters, especially the ABC ones probably wouldn’t change networks for any price) at Overton, Gardner, Knight, Sully, Riminton, Belling, Phillips and Fernandez? Or is there a better solution?

The most obvious example of the Nine News Sydney team having more depth than Seven would be them having three main newsreaders, but also their reporting team which has everything from seasoned veterans to younger up and coming talent and some brilliant specialist reporters (courts, crime, health, finance, state politics, sport, etc).

Not really when you add Neil Breen and Danny Weidler to the equation.

Neither is the answer. If Sandra really had that massive pulling power then I personally believe TENFAF Sydney should be rating better.

Ann Sanders. A total pleasure to watch.

You’ve obviously never watched the regular weeknight presenter… Now that is someone who could send an insomniac to sleep.

Yes, Ann has always lacked warmth, but she makes up for it in authority, integrity and class.

I can count on one hand how many bulletins I have watched since Ferguson took over from Bath.

I can’t sit through a bulletin read by him either… Ann on the other hand I can manage quite well.

Whatever your personal preferences are, there is no denying that the ratings for Seven News Sydney are slowly closing in on Nine; the average difference between the two Mon-Fri bulletins for this year so far is now 35,000 (last week it was 28,000); that is better than the same time last year (when the lead is was the same) and a very significant improvement on the same period 3 years ago when the current one hour format was introduced. Seven now gets 47% of the 6pm news audience in Sydney so given the improvement over time, I can’t see Seven making any change.

How do you think of Fergo (just curious)?

Not having to watch him much except through you Tube Uploads and occasional special reports, I would describe him (to quote Kath and Kim) as “air fridge” :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Ann Sanders did a series of reports for 11AM about the Chernobyl aftermath and the effects the radiation fallout was having on the population in 1990. SydneyCityTV is correct in saying she joined Seven in January 1988 having spent the preceding years as a consumer reporter and weekend presenter on Eyewitness News.

The gap is certainly closing, however, is it due to Seven’s ratings improving or Nine’s deteriorating?

A higher percentage of people watching news at 6pm in Sydney are now watching Seven than at any time in recent years. As mentioned it is 47% so far this year - in 2014 it was 42% for the year.

I can’t find anywhere Nine is deteriorating, or Seven is improving.

Jim Wilson is presenting 5pm and Sydney 6pm sport tonight.

Has Tom Hartley presented Gold Coast News before? If it was his first time presenting he did a quite good job

I thought they’d usually use Katrina Blowers or Bianca Stone, but good to see them training up newer talents.
