Seven News Content and Appearance (2015-2020)

What does the Sydney desk screen have on it for the bulletin opener?

Just a Seven News logo with a slightly animated background, nothing special.

Would have been great if they could’ve incorporate the newsroom back into the set.

easily one of the best newsrooms in the country at the time.

But they do sometimes put other images on this screen like a picture of the city when there are other such wide shots during the bulletin like at the start of the section just after 6:30…

Seven Sydney indeed does that for a “Return From Break” segment (probably the one at/around 6.30pm) but not for the bulletin Opener which was the original question asked.

But has Melbourne been showing anything else at all on their version of this screen throughout the bulletin since they started using their new set or does their’s always remain static?

That set looks positively BBC-esque.

So does the Seven News logo from that time, uses the Gill Sans font, which was and still used in the BBC’s Corporate Identity.

The final set for Seven News Sydney at the old Epping studios (which was the design eventually rolled out to the other capital cities) looked even more BBC-esque!

To be fair, that was a great set during the time. Probably as good as the Nine News set today (by 2003 standards).

Certainly better than what Nine was dishing up at around the same time (credits to @Zampakid) .

With the benefit of hindsight, I actually think some of the maligned elements of Seven News’ On-Air Presentation in the Late '90s and Early 2000s might’ve been just ahead of their time.

Standing presentation, weather previews before the 1st ad break, more customised report-themed graphics, a background for sport with monitors in the background…Nine News Sydney has been doing all those sorts of things more recently!

Agreed. Despite there being updates to the set in 1999 and the graphics/theme music in 2000, I’d say it took until the 2004 relaunch (and to some extent, increased competition in the form of Seven News with Ian Ross from around that time!) before National Nine News Sydney really brought it’s On-Air Presentation into the 21st century.

However the presenters pictured there are still the best news/sport combination this market has ever seen though (although Pete & Cam certainly have the potential to come close to that) IMO!

Just imagine if Perth had a real set…:astonished:

With that being said, could we expect a revamped set with tweaks added to the existing set, or should we strap into r e l a u n c h mode and see new Supers to complement the new national Headline graphics that debuted last Sunday, like when the rest of new graphics debuted during Rio 2016? :open_mouth:

gimme dem angled supers :stuck_out_tongue:

Morning News will not air today due to Super Bowl telecast.

Understand it’s a new setup, just odd to have the desk working on night 1 and then after that not able to? When the image is already on there but just static?
Fingers crossed they can fix it soon then.
Still think this set is the best one they have ever had in my opinion.

This Seven Gold Coast News promo is probably one of the best promos Seven has produced.

2004? Personally I thought Nine looked cheap and crappy compared to Seven and Ten (and even the ABC) until around the 2012 relaunch.

No changes to the Brisbane set tonight, unfortunately.

Perhaps the “new look” comment may only be a reference to there being two presenters on Seven Gold Coast News from tonight?

Side note: While Seven Gold Coast News probably needed two presenters, it seems that Seven are usually behind the eight ball (or should that be the Nine ball?) with these things in the East Coast markets!
