Seven News Content and Appearance (2020-Feb 2025)

Yep until November 2017

Given the state of Seven News, this was completely expected. This wouldn’t have been cheap to produce as @TV.Cynic mentioned. Was there even a need to have two newsreaders?

There’s no point in keeping the Gold Coast stream on 7plus going then. Might as well shut down their m3u8 Gold Coast links.

Just move their staff to Brisbane and rename 7 Gold Coast to 7 Brisbane on the TV channel list. Simple as that.

And if they can’t care about their Gold Coast viewers any further, then Seven should just sell off their local office and studios in Surfers Paradise and get out of the Gold Coast completely. No need for covering Gold Coast news as 9NEWS already does that. Nine will once again be the only local news bulletin on the Gold Coast (and is actually the original bulletin for the Gold Coast).

Or even a sports presenter - they probably had them because Nine had them, and as for double headers they probably had to find something for Amanda to do after the weekend bulletin was axed.

In the current circumstance though, they could’ve just had Amanda as the sole newsreader once Rod Young retired, or as you mentioned use Steve/Amanda for sport.

How long can they keep up with what 7 or 8 regional bulletins too?
Like if Gold Coast news is being axed, can Toowoomba news survive?

Local presenters Steve Titmus and Amanda Abate are also understood to be staying with the network, with new positions for them to be announced soon.

Steve to join Sam on weekends?

Steve was clearly a reactionary thing to try and gain taction after the Olympics.

Unlike the Gold Coast, they have no completion apart from WIN News at 5:30pm, and the bulletins get massive shares which means advertiser’s are more likely to buy ad space which probably generates a decent amount revenue.

Time for me to make another Satire mock and hope that it airs on 7NEWS Gold Coast this Thursday night. Wish me luck…

Just post it in the right thread…

I might have to post it here too, in the hope that (if they do have a read at this thread on MS) they see this. I’ll happily remove the post if they don’t air it.

Why on earth would they air a mock?

No mate. We’ve had this discussion. Mocks and satire have a certain place on the forum but this isn’t it.

I’m fairly sure they would air a decent tribute to the bulletin and the people who worked on it rather than a mock, especially since the Brisbane people still put the bulletin to air.

I thought the bulletin was quite competitive with Rod Young. The quality is there from the reporting team as well but the audience didn’t warm to Steve and I thought that Sally Pearson was a poor choice for sport presenter

BTW the reason for ending on Thursday is the first test is on Friday and the bulletin would not have aired.

isn’t that the same deal? 7 v 9/Win?
might get good shares, but when it comes to the bottom line!!

Both were parachuted in because they were available - at least Amanda and Rod have connections to the Gold Coast

They get shares of above 80% in some markets apparently - would still generate a fair amount of revenue.

Good news for Nine’s bulletin that should keep it going for longer. Also slightly good for 10 - one less buletin to compete with its 5pm offering.

Do you happen to have any numbers from recent times on 9 vs 7 Gold Coast?
