So, because it’s happening in other countries it shouldn’t be reported on?
Do you know what framing is? Look how it’s promoted with Albo pictured all over it.
It’s a very topical issue with an election coming up next year - I’ll be waiting until I see the first report before making judgement
Going live in AEDT
Seven strangely broke away from the conference for commentary. NIna and ABC stayed with the media conference.
Seven breaking into programming to bring Press Conference about Alan Jones being arrested.
Snap.

7 News Gold Coast axed.

As sad as it is, I’m surprised it took them this long - clearly hasn’t been much investment in resources over time, especially since they lost both of their points of difference from when they started - 7 days a week, and Rod Young. Also didn’t help that the bulletin shared a news director with Brisbane (Nine have separate directors), who would’ve been more focused on the Brisbane product. Also looked like they had less resources than Nine as well.
7 news Gold Coast bulletin is no more. It’s been axed. See news Its paywalled. https://www.couriermail.com.au/subscribe/news/1/?sourceCode=CMWEB_WRE170_a_GGL&dest=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.couriermail.com.au%2Fentertainment%2Fchannel-7-axes-gold-coast-news-bulletin-in-latest-blow-to-network%2Fnews-story%2Fb716d3143763df1bb9f8a375143f0973&memtype=anonymous&mode=premium&v21=LOW-Segment-2-SCORE
It was always going to be tough for Seven to break into the Gold Coast market when Nine had a two-decade head start on it, though it did do well to briefly be the market leader in 2019 only for Nine’s bulletin to become number one again.
A network insider has lashed out after Channel 7 axes its Gold Coast news bulletin saying it was a “terrible day for the station and for the Gold Coast”.
Just months after the station axed some of its biggest stars, including popular newsreader Sharyn Ghidella and weatherman Paul Burt, network management on Tuesday informed staff at the Gold Coast Bureau that the nightly news bulletin would be axed, going to the air for the last time on Thursday night.
The bureau will remain, with network executives telling staff many jobs would continue as part of the station’s commitment to the city for the 6pm statewide bulletin.
Some staff have been offered the opportunity to move to Brisbane, while non-editorial positions, including in the sales team, are not expected to be affected by the decision.
From next week, Channel 7’s Gold Coast viewers will receive hour-long episodes of The Chase, instead of cutting to the local news at 5.30pm.
It feels like déjà vu for Seven. I seem to recall they had a GC bulletin in the late 1990s and was axed after a short run.
Weren’t they already receiving hour long The Chase, just at 4:30pm not 5pm?
Sad day for Seven News.
However, Seven seemed to be wasting a lot of money on the bulletin brining in Steve Titmus as a second newsreader and then adding Sally Pearson as a sports reader - overkill IMO. They would have saved some money outsourcing the weather to Brisbane after letting Paul Burt go.
It was otherwise a pretty good bulletin - on par with Nine’s offering.
Nine has been winning the 5pm Tipping Point ratings by the biggest margin in Brisbane and part of that would be due to Gold Coast news being included in those ratings.
Correct.
Means that Gold Coast will now also receive the full 60 minute afternoon news bulletin.
Very sad to see this happen, but not unexpected. Seemed like it never really gained traction and Nine was just too strong on the Gold Coast.
It had a good run though - 8 years. From memory the bulletin also originally ran on weekends too?
That shouldn’t mean they just give up and axe it though. Someone has to come second.
