Seven Network - Programs and Schedules

I needed to fill in a lot of TBA in the schedule provided and there a still significant unrevealed gaps in the schedule. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Thursday and Friday TBAs are Idol “encores”.

Looks like it by the timing.

The advance schedule I saw describes as Australian Idol as season 1, ignoring the previous seven seasons which aired on Ten from 2003 and 2009. It should be season 8 overall.

2 episodes of Below Deck Down Under will air after Aus Idol on Monday Jan 30.

They have done this with Big Brother as well.
I guess think of it as Australian Idol: Seven Network Era, Season 1

What happens with shows like ACA and This is Your Life which have had earlier versions?
Or even remakes?

Seven have labelled the show as Season 8 on their media site so I don’t know where the info about season one labelling was from.

The previous seasons are also briefly acknowledged during the first episode.

Sam Mac to host all-new Sydney Weekender

Sunrise favourite takes the helm in milestone season

The Seven Network is excited to announce Australia’s favourite weather presenter, Sam Mac, as the new host of long-running lifestyle program, Sydney Weekender.

The Sunrise star takes the helm of the travel, food and adventure show, which celebrates its 30th season in 2023, returning at 5.30pm today on Channel 7 and 7plus, and repeated every Saturday on 7two.

Sam will add to his jam-packed schedule for Seven’s top-rating breakfast program, by exploring his adopted home state of New South Wales the “Weekender Way”, showcasing interesting, informative and affordable ideas to stay, play, visit and eat around the state and beyond.

Leading a team of 12 reporters, Mac said: “Sydney Weekender is an institution. I’m absolutely thrilled to have an opportunity to play my small part in this incredible show.

“It’s such an iconic show with an extremely passionate fan base, who love discovering the hottest spots to visit in our state. I can’t wait to take my partner Bec and our baby Margot on some of these wild adventures.

“I’ve watched Sydney Weekender on a Sunday arvo for many years, so it’s quite surreal to think I’m about to be on it! I’m ready to get out exploring our state, discovering the next hot holiday spot and especially excited about the characters I’ll meet on my travels. Bring it on!,” he said.

Jenny Forsyth, executive producer, said: “Sydney Weekender is thrilled to have Sam Mac join the team. He brings passion, humour and extensive travel experience to the show, and we can’t wait to celebrate our 30th anniversary year with him as our new host.”

Sam replaces Matt Shirvington, who is focussing on his growing 7NEWS and 7SPORT commitments this year.

Matt Shirvington only hosted a year?

I quite enjoyed Matt Shirvington in his role on sydney Weekender. Such a natural.

I know he’s popular, but i havent been the biggest fan of Sam Mac. I dobt know what it is. Maybe i dont find his jokes funny? (Im picky, i know. Lol). But do hope he dpes a good job on the show.

Similar to Sunrise where he pops around the country doung the weather at various places, he would be presenting Sydney Weekender at vsrious places too - just in NSW instead.

Sam probably wants to stay in Sydney more, because of his newborn baby. The time spend on travel could be used doing Sydney Weekender, therefore still justifying his salary more.

No Olympics, Winter Olympics or Comm Games this year though, not to mention they don’t have the Australian Open or any other Grand Slam and Melbourne Cup anymore either and domestic cricket season all but wrapping-up. What, V8s coverage? AFL?? So seems an odd remark.

Yeah it definitely sounds odd that Shirvo has suddenly left after just one year. Perhaps he’s spending more time on Sunrise, or could have more sports reading duties on 7NEWS this year. But very happy for Sam Mac, hope he does well.

Is Sydney the only state still running the Weekender show.

Brisbane’s got one too, simply titled “Weekender”. Not sure if its Queensland based, or just airs in Brisbane.

As for Sam Mac, i guess it help since he’s on the road (location) a lot for Sunrise doing the weather anyway. I guess that helps him film segments for Sydney Weekender also.

Maybe Matt Shirvington may end up doing Sydney’s sports segment full-time down the track, or he’s busy doing Sunrise and Friday and Saturday night sports reading for Sydney. Odd to leave Weekender after one year.

Weekender as seen in Queensland is a resurrected combination of the axed Queensland Weekender and The Great South East. New episodes return next week.
