Seven Network - Programs and Schedules

Like you not an expert, but I always assumed it would be included given the number of repeats of cooking shows screening on Ten

From my understanding repeats or not - it all counts as Australian content.

However, the networks have quotas on first run Australian drama each year.

So putting the two together, Australian content must include SOME first run Australian drama but a repeat ep of Sons and Daughters does count as Australian content

I didnt want to flood this thread with the ins and outs, but you are right on the Australian drama quota

Section 10 Australian drama programs requirement

Section 10 sets the minimum amounts of first release Australian drama programs to be broadcast in prime time by commercial television broadcasting licensees as:

    each calendar year (250 points)
    each three-year period (860 points).

Then the Childrens C time programs
Section 12 Australian C drama — first release programs

Section 12 sets the minimum amounts of first release Australian children’s drama programs to be broadcast in designated children’s viewing times[1] by commercial television broadcasting licensees as:

  • 25 hours in each calendar year

  • 96 hours in each three-year period.

Programs targeted to Preschoolers
Section 13 and 14 respectively states that licensees must broadcast 8 hours of non-first release Australian children’s drama programs (i.e. repeats) during the children’s viewing times and that at least 50 percent must be first run.

Section 15 P programs (Australian preschool programs)

Section 15 provides that all P programs broadcast by a licensee in accordance with CTS 8 must be Australian programs. Licensees are required by CTS 8 to broadcast 130 hours of P programs annually (see CTS 5 and 9).

Sorry to flood the thread but thought I would elaborate on other specific points before it dragged out the argument. Maybe a more appropriate thread for this to be in would be a Australian Content thread… What do the moderators think?

Seven has taken Modern Family off the schedule with one episode yet to be shown. Season 10 episode 7 aired in the US on November 7 before a three-week break, episode 8 is due to be shown there on November 28.

Not as bad as Nine’s, but Goldbergs and Yummy Mummies should do a swap. Goldbergs double episode at 10pm and Yummy Mummies shunted off as late as possible.

Network premiere. Highest grossing film of all time.

I take it whatever movies are on main channel elsewhere, will be on 7mate in Melbourne?

The Goldbergs are on Three week break in the US as Well for Season 6 as Australia’s airing Season 5 right about now, we’ll be alright as long as Seven don’t take them off Midway.

Can I just say that while it’s largely their fault, Seven just can’t seem to get a break with their failures. Even when their primetime gains strength, their other areas fall loose. For example, in 2016 Seven had their best primetime ratings in a long time, yet their morning schedule of Sunrise fell apart. Now their morning lineup is sorted, their primetime ratings are crap. If only one day they can get both primetime and morning ratings up to scratch then they’ll be totally dominant.

Just an observation on my behalf.

Even though they’re the prime time ratings leader for the 12th year in a row?

And they’ve lost very few weeks in prime time the whole year.

I don’t think that’s the point Tom is trying to make. Yes, Seven will likely be the #1 network in primetime, probably helped to some extent by the Winter Olympics & Commonwealth Games.

But at the same time, I’d personally argue that there are major cracks starting to appear in Seven’s primetime scheduling. Their 2nd half lineup is incredibly weak (it’s only recovered somewhat in the past two years due to The Block finishing a month before the end of ratings season) and even their previously rock solid 1st half lineup isn’t as strong as it once was. As much as I loathe both programs, Married At First Sight was this year already becoming a serious challenger to My Kitchen Rules and with the change of networks for the tennis, the possibility of MAFS becoming even more of a ratings monster than it already is shouldn’t be ruled out.

As the network needs money for their expensive AFL, cricket and Olympic deals I also wouldn’t be overly surprised if Seven gradually loses the rights of more sporting events (such as other Spring Racing Carnival events, Sydney to Hobart & Australian Open/Masters golf) to other networks in the next year or two.

I disagree. I think that was exactly the point Tom was trying to make, worded exactly and therefore replied by that. Could have easily worded it differently? But I think we all know why and also why you () are defending.

All good.

Can’t something be crap and still win?

Only because of their multi-channels. Nine is too close for comfort.

Saturday schedule added.

AFAIK according to what Cynic publishes weekly, Seven’s main channel is also comfortably ahead of Nine’s main channel (last year Ch 9 was in 0.1% striking distance).

Though I’d question if YTD removes Easter/Winter Olympics/Comm Games or not?
