Seven Network - Programs and Schedules

I can understand this repeat for Saturday to get the extra eyeballs tuning in.

But personally, i think repeats shouldn’t be airing at 7pm - even if it is on a lowly watching night of a Saturday. Just lazy programming. I know it’s filler until the AFL starts. Border Security and Border Patrol that usually airs on Saturdays aren’t that much better.

Seven News did 640k metro and No. 1 program last Saturday, if WITB encore does half of that (which in itsself would be pretty good considering how the first run did although against Married) or a little below that, that would be a decent result for Seven. So this could be the first non-movie non-news that actually seems acceptable in Saturday prime time of recent years.

I will definitely tune in for the WITB encore. It gives me something to watch on Saturday nights, since I normally tune into food shows on SBS Food or catch up on the shows I recorded earlier on my PVR.

The Best of The Russell Gilbert Show

Two brand-new primetime specials celebrate comedy genius

Over the 30-year run of Hey Hey It’s Saturday, there were many spinoff programs, but none funnier than The Russell Gilbert Show.

Across the next two Wednesdays on Channel 7 and 7plus, The Best of The Russell Gilbert Show celebrates lovable rascal Russell Gilbert, who became an Aussie icon in the 1980s and 1990s through his mastery of sketch and physical comedy in everyday situations.

In Part 1, introduced by Daryl Somers, Russell delivers some unfortunate news to some children at a party in the park about the fate of their circus clown; has a crack as a music producer on a John Farnham album with mixed results; and gives Mike Myers a crash course on the art of Aussie lifesaving. And, have you ever wondered what we did before elastic was invented?

In Part 2, introduced by Mick Molloy, Russell saves the life of an iconic amusement park character who then proceeds to stalk him; we find out if a cuddling cop gets his man; and run into some very climate-friendly hoons. Plus, have you ever wondered where clichés come from?

Daryl Somers said: “Russell Gilbert should be recognised as one of the greats of Australian comedy. He lit up the scene from ’86 onwards through his first appearance on Hey Hey, then as a regular on The Comedy Company and back to Hey Hey for over a decade as a vital part of the ensemble.

“These two specials highlight the breadth of his talents, such that 25 years on they are still ‘laugh out loud’ funny. It’s just so sad that health problems shortened his career.”

Don’t miss this riotous celebration of one of the funniest comedians Australia has ever produced, featuring cameos from Glenn Robbins, Marty Sheargold, Bob Franklin, Dave O’Neil, The Amazing Johnathan, James Reyne and more.

Part 1 premieres 7.30pm Wednesday, 8 March on Channel 7 and 7plus

Part 2 premieres 7.30pm Wednesday, 15 March on Channel 7 and 7plus

Inside Cyprus With Ben Fogle

Thursday 16 March 7:30 PM 7Mate in Melbourne and Adelaide.

Ben Fogle heads to Cyprus, deviating from the tourist trail. He has unique access to the ‘Buffer Zone’, a no-man’s land which cuts right through the middle of the island. The Turkish Cypriot community in the North, and the Greek Cypriot community in the South have been separated since civil war and an illegal invasion divided them almost 50 years ago. This left a third of the population displaced, essentially making them refugees overnight.

Ben spends a week with the UN peacekeeping mission who patrol the 230 square mile Buffer Zone to keep the two warring sides apart. Ben is on a mission to understand more about the so-called ‘Cyprus problem’ and visits the ghost towns left behind. He learns how criminal gangs profit from the division, and hears the stories of people on both sides of the divide whose lives have been changed forever.

They could’ve had this coincide with a Spotlight feature on Russell Gilbert, perhaps? I understand he isn’t well these days?

At this stage looks to be a one off as the following Sunday it is back Ed Sheeran v Adele.

Rather than a compiled clip show like the Hey Hey specials, these look more like complete episodes of the show complete with opening and closing titles. Each has a very brief intro as mentioned.

Finally something that actually seems somewhat suited to 7mate, when Seven are running split schedules during varying AFL. Doubt it will rate though, being buried there, unless they promote it well, though the 7mate movies during AFL in Melbourne at least always seem to do decent (30-60k, sometimes higher, sometimes lower) and help share.

A few comments on that Saturday:

Gold Coast Suns (even if good for exposure and this night seldom rates anyway) are not the Lions, so main channel seems risky for Brisbane.

Adelaide receiving an all-Melbourne game seems strange, unlikely to draw a high audience there.

Perth looks like the only market with movies, considering they’re not playing out across five cities on main channel, should drop Border and start them at 7pm, as they previously were in this situation.

And an overall comment: when AFL season is in swing, competing for five city audience against say Nine becomes rather irrelevant, it’s really all about share%, with all the split scheduling.

Perth will get Melbourne v Western Bulldogs on 7mate at 4pm local time.

Really, that’s silly. Why don’t they start on main channel and switch to 7mate for Seven News at 6pm, like what Adelaide have been doing for a couple of years now in similar situations? An all-Melbourne game and not a profile one was never going to draw high viewership in a small market like Perth, but especially if it’s during day time and on 7mate!

Should really be called ‘Australia’s Worst Schedule’.

How many episodes of We Interrupt This Broadcast were made?

From TV Tonight:

“The 10-episode series is produced by Helium for Channel Seven and will showcase some of Australia’s most versatile up-and-coming performers.”
Filming takes place at Trackdown Studios, Moore Park from Dec 20 – March 2.

It’s the Seven national broadcast game, so Adelaide receive it by default as the Crows or Power aren’t playing that night.

According to online guides, Seven has only allocated three hours for the premiere broadcast (11am-2pm). Based on past ceremonies, I think this will not finish until 2.30pm or even 3pm.
