Seven Network - Programs and Schedules

:rage::rage::rage:

Maybe you were watching something else or not at home? Yes there are other ways to catch up, but also sometimes when people are just relaxing on a Friday night they’ll watch whatever comes on next. Always worth a shot. They can’t win the week now anyway.

This is the first week of the unofficial ratings year.

Doesn’t the official ratings year start today?

“Ratings period” starts at the beginning of week 7.

Feb 12 is the official rating period not unofficial

OzTAM runs ratings every day of the year. It recognises a period that networks call the “ratings year” but it isn’t really official - it’s just an industry agreed period which is why I like to refer to it an unofficial.

Here is what OzTAM say:

… the traditional 40-week survey calendar (weeks 7-48, excluding Easter) … are provided as a courtesy to OzTAM clients who continue to trade on that basis. It is up to broadcasters and their clients to determine the time bands on which they negotiate.

This marks a change in strategy from Seven, who have aired an early or family movie at 6:30pm > 7pm > 7:30pm largely for decades on a Saturday. Perhaps reflective of the poor (sometimes barely 200k metro) audiences in-line with FTA movies and FTA in general declining and Nine’s permanent shift with ACA and Space Invaders from 2021 after covid. It could also be because they see Space Invaders as having done solid in that timeslot, after ACA has proven so (although in the second half of last year not so much where Border got on a strong roll).

Will be interesring to see whether Seven stick, my guess would be they’d want to see consistently better than 200-300k metro and especially in key demos. If that doesn’t stack up against what the movies had been doing or worse, they may well revert.

However, when Saturday AFL begins in just over a month varying across the network, they indeed might not bother continuing with this, as it’d make for challenging ratings/analysis with it buried and presumably dead on 7mate or wherever in some markets.

If Starstruck attract good ratings for the network, maybe Seven could consider producing an Australian version.

The official is also unofficial lol

Or they might just move it to a later timeslot when it doesn’t

Another British drama bites the dust at Seven. After failing to attract an audience for its premiere episode, Seven have acted swiftly and bumped Maternal to a later Sunday night timeslot where it will be burned off in double episodes.

09:45 PM Maternal S01 E02
10:45 PM Maternal S01 E03

The following Sunday will have a similar schedule

Sunday 19 February

08:45 PM Kylie vs Bee Gees Rpt

WHY MUSIC VS REPEATS!?

The people at ITV must be thinking why Maternal rated quite well in UK but flopped in Australia. Was it due to scheduling? Lead-in? Storylines? Promotions? Or a combination of those?

It’s hard to remember the last successful ITV drama that Seven have launched, and they have tried them all. Last Sunday was a very hard ask - poor results for the lead in from Idol and up against the season premiere of 60 Minutes with very popular exclusive stories.

Could it be, people are not interested in British drama any more or drama in general?

No one cares for them on the main channel on a Sunday night. Might’ve stood a chance if it was on 7TWO instead.

Seven knows this yet they keep putting these dramas in prime slots time after time because they have nothing else.

That’s incorrect, just look at the figures Vera (fellow ITV drama) got for the ABC on Sunday, and also other British dramas on the ABC on Saturday nights during the year.

The last successful ITV drama that Seven launched was Downton Abbey in May 2011.
