RECORD-BREAKING SUBMARINES

Today’s submarines are the pinnacle of technology, the most sophisticated constructions in shipbuilding ever. In 1971, the Redoutable entered active service, a 9,000-ton vessel able to dive to a depth of several hundred meters, carrying 16 ballistic missiles armed with nuclear warheads. The Suffren, coming out of the Cherbourg shipyards in 2022 is an under-sea predator; it doesn’t have nuclear warheads, yet its weapons arsenal is state of the art. Its task is to protect aircraft carriers and missile-carrying submarines of the French Navy’s Strategic Ocean Force. The Rubis, commissioned in 1933, is an unsung veteran of the Free French Navy during the Second World War. Between 1940 and 1944, it sank more ships than the entire French navy. So, let’s run silent and deep onboard these formidable submarines.

RECORD-BREAKING DAMS

La Rance Dam in Brittany, Tignes Dam in the French Alps and Roselend Dam near Mont Blanc - three iconic structures that have broken engineering records in Europe. When the Tignes Dam was finished in 1952, it was the highest dam in Europe, rising to 181 metres. 300 meters long and 43 metres wide, it took 5,600 workers six years to build.

There is also the dam of La Rance, near St Malo. During the 1960’s, it was one of the most spectacular construction sites, attracting 150,000 visitors. Finally, there is the impressive Roselend Dam in Savoy. With an incredible 945,000 tons of concrete, it holds the record for the most massive structure in France.

Surely they could have at least used orange to make it somewhat have it’s own identity. I mean.. ABC Family & ABC Entertains distinguished themselves with independent colours. ABC Family had Purple whilst ABC Entertains had Pink.
