Pelosi’s Power

Sunday 25 September 7:30 PM

Powerful and polarising, explore House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s life and legacy.

With revelatory interviews, the documentary is a gripping and unprecedented look at the life and legacy of the first woman Speaker of the House - how she has gained and wielded power across three decades, and how she has handled grave and continuing challenges to her leadership and to American democracy from former President Donald Trump and his allies.

The documentary draws on dozens of in-depth interviews - with Pelosi herself; her family; her staffers, Congressional colleagues, and fierce opponents over the years; White House insiders, and journalists and authors who have chronicled the career of the woman who is now second in line to the presidency. It all adds up to a vivid portrait of Pelosi’s approach to life and politics, starting with her childhood in Baltimore, Maryland, where her father was mayor.

Secrets Of The Lost Liners

From Friday 30 September 8:30 PM 6 episodes

Secrets Of The Lost Liners is an in-depth history series that charts the design, service and loss of some of the world’s greatest ocean liners. From art deco icons to symbols of fascist dictatorships, from hard-worked immigrant ships to luxury floating palaces, these extravagant ships were some of the most amazing moving objects ever made. They attracted the rich and famous to their first-class accommodation, and masses of immigrants to the lower decks. They pushed the boundaries of engineering and design in a constant game of one-upmanship between different companies and different nations. But one by one, they would all be lost in tragic and sometimes mysterious circumstances.

Featuring never-before seen footage, experts, and historians along with a minute-by-minute analysis of
each catastrophe, this series will tell the stories of these incredible ships, of the brilliant designers who
built them and the people who sailed on board.

Latest Secrets Of The Hieroglyphs

Sunday 2 October 7:30 PM

200 years ago, a young French scholar Jean-François Champollion accomplished the impossible - he cracked the code of hieroglyphs, which had remained mute for over a millennium.

Thanks to his decipherment, an entire civilisation buried under the sands of Egypt could come to life again.

In the South, near Luxor, Egyptologists are intrigued by a richly adorned tomb, the most monumental in Egypt, larger than those of the pharaohs - the tomb of a priest named Padiamenope.

Granted exclusive access to the core of the archaeological mission led by the IFAO (French Institute of Oriental Archaeology in Cairo), we are introduced to their latest discoveries.

Thanks to an exceptional setup of 3D virtual tours plunging into the dark, stifling hot depths of this Palace of Hieroglyphs, we’ll be able to uncover the secrets of the priests, scribes, painters, engravers, and builders who created that grand funerary monument.

SBS documentary series ‘Australia’s Sleep Revolution with Dr Michael Mosley’ greenlit for production

Australia’s Sleep Revolution’s Dr Michael Mosley is back, collaborating once more with Artemis Media on a new series for SBS designed to wake up Australia to the dangers of bad sleep.

Screenwest is pleased to announce that Australia’s Sleep Revolution with Dr Michael Mosley, a three-part WA documentary series about the dangers of bad sleep has been greenlit for production by SBS, Screen Australia, Screenwest and Lotterywest and the South Australian Film Corporation.

Australia’s Sleep Revolution with Dr Michael Mosley follows renowned doctor, trusted medical journalist and serial insomniac Dr. Michael Mosley, who, together with some of the nation’s poorest sleepers will put their bodies on the line to trial Australian-led, world first sleep treatments. Teaming up with expert Australian sleep physicians, Dr Mosley will wake up the nation to the dangers of bad slumber and inspire a sleep revolution.

Produced by Artemis Media (Ningaloo, Every Family Has a Secret), the series is Dr Mosley’s second collaboration with the WA production company after the 2021 SBS documentary series Australia’s Health Revolution with Dr Michael Mosley. The series proved to be a ratings smash, with SBS naming it as one of top four titles for the year across the whole network schedule and across all genres.

The creative team includes series producer Katherine Barrett, alongside returning series director Russell Vines, development producer Nia Pericles and executive producer Celia Tait who previously collaborated on Australia’s Health Revolution with Dr Michael Mosley.

“It’s really exciting to be working with Dr Michael Mosley again and to be collaborating with the Flinders University Sleep team. We’re all looking forward to learning how to sleep better!” said Celia Tait, Australia’s Sleep Revolution with Dr Michael Mosley Executive Producer.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Dr Michael Mosley back to Australia after the success of Australia’s Health Revolution with Dr Michael Mosley. We hope this new series educates, inspires and, most of all, makes a positive impact on people’s lives.” said Bernadine Lim, SBS Commissioning Editor for Documentaries.

“First diet, now sleep – it’s fantastic to see Artemis continuing their relationship with Dr Mosley on a second documentary series. Australia’s Sleep Revolution is set to arm Australians with empowering knowledge about how to feel and live better.” said Paul Williams, Screenwest Documentary Executive.

Production credit: Australia’s Sleep Revolution with Dr Michael Mosley is an Artemis Media production for SBS. Principal production investment from Screen Australia in association with SBS. Financed with support from Screenwest and Lotterywest and the South Australian Film Corporation.

Jerusalem: Builders Of The Holy City

Friday 11 November 7:35 PM

For over three thousand years, Jerusalem has been the stage of the foundation of many a myth. These founding tales have forged the great civilizations of the past, starting with the Judaic civilization.

From Antiquity on, the most prestigious architects of the Mediterranean Basin applied themselves to turning this isolated city into one of the jewels of the Middle East.

At the heart of the city, the Romans raised an entire mountain with a view to building the Temple Mount, an immense religious complex drawing from the heritage of the famed Temple of David so sacred in Jewish religion. In order to transport the enormous blocks of stone that make up this architectural feat - the heaviest weighing 400 tons - they had to resort to incredible levels of ingenuity. Centuries later, one of the first great Christian churches would be erected in the center of the city: The Church of the Holy Sepulchre. This monumental edifice was built by Emperor Constantine around the tomb of Christ. A central focus of Christianity for nearly three centuries, Jerusalem never ceased to reinvent itself with each conquest. Years later, it would give rise to one of the wonders of Muslim architecture: The Dome of the Rock, the Islamic Empire’s response to the Constantinian Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

From the Temple’s esplanade to the Dome of the Rock, how were these structures built back in the day? What techniques have allowed them to cross the ages and withstand every earthquake, war, and conquest?

From one hill to the other and from civilization to civilization, this documentary takes an inside look inside the heart of Jerusalem’s iconic monuments that have witnessed 3,000 years of history and mystery, as we reveal the secrets of the Eternal City and its holy builders.
