Saving Lives At Sea

Monday 9 May 7:30 PM 4 episodes

Every day around the UK, an army of unpaid volunteers put their lives on the line to try and save complete strangers. Saving Lives At Sea tells the story of these ordinary men and women who are doing something extraordinary - giving up their free time to staff more than two hundred RNLI lifeboat stations right across the country and provide a vital rescue service on Britain’s waters.

From the north of Scotland to the south coast of England, in holiday resorts, working harbours, and on the river Thames, volunteers are ready to launch their boats and race to the rescue within minutes of a cry for help coming in - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, whatever the weather.

Using a combination of specially designed boat-mounted cameras, helmet cameras and directors embedded at lifeboat stations the length and breadth of Britain, this series take us right into the heart of the action, capturing the unpredictable work of the RNLI in never-before-seen detail. The series provides an insight into the lives and motivations of the volunteers, uncovering the stories of those they are called upon to rescue, and exploring our island nation’s evolving relationship with the seas that surround us.

Similar to last year, another strange scheduling choice for prime time Eurovision viewing - having to wait two days for the night time replay of Semi Final 1 and that screening after Semi 2; then having to wait until Saturday for the second semi featuring Australia’s entrant.

That’s exactly what I complained of when the schedule for the 2022 event came out. What’s wrong with the same day replay of the semi-finals?

Again - an odd decision by SBS by delaying the night replays of the semi-final.

Is the MH 370 doco more important for SBS than the replay of Semi Final 1? Heck, even show the Semi Finals replays on SBS Viceland at 8.30pm (after 8 Out of 10 Cats does Countdown) on the same night as the morning live editions. And show the Grand Final replay on SBS.

It is a four-part mini-series based on the debut novel of the same name by Graham Norton.

They’ve been doing this for years. They like to barrel it all up as a weekend (prime time) event. Some of us will be up at 5am to watch it live, anyway. Not sure if they put the 5am show On Demand or hold off until the prime time replay which can differ slightly by the time they splice in their own segments and chop some bits out.

The Big Fat Quiz of Everything (Sat May 22): altough i cannot remember if its aired on SBS before or not, but i have not watched this edition before. But have seen many of the Annual Editions before and have enjoyed them. So I’ll do my best to watch this one. Thanks for the heads up.

I have already seen it elsewhere. It was good. Usually, they air early in the new year.
